Trio of Tigers score 20+ as Campbellsville upsets #15 Georgetown, 86-76

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University men's basketball team hosted Mid-South Conference rival and 15th-ranked Georgetown College on Thursday night. Fueled by a blistering offensive performance and a dominant showing from their bench, the Tigers defeated Georgetown for the first time since 2020, securing an 86-76 victory inside the Powell Athletic Center.

Campbellsville Tigers Story Banner 25-26
  • Three Campbellsville players eclipsed the 20-point mark: Dalton Kramer led the way with 24 points, followed by Marcellus Vail with 23, and Ra Briggs with 21 off the bench.
  • Vail was efficient from the floor, leading the team with nine made field goals on 13 attempts.
  • Ra Briggs provided a massive spark as a reserve, draining 5-of-6 three-pointers and recording two blocked shots.
  • Parker Jones orchestrated the offense, dishing out a game-high eight assists and pulling down a team-high six rebounds.
  • The Tigers scorched the nets, shooting 60.0% from the field and 54.2% from three-point range, while holding Georgetown to 40.3% shooting.
  • Campbellsville dominated the statistical battle, outperforming Georgetown in defensive rebounds (26-20), assists (25-18), and bench points (23-3).
  • The victory snaps a losing skid against Georgetown dating back to 2020.
  • The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, February 7th, hosting the Cumberland University Phoenix beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
Georgetown scored the first points of the game in the paint with a bucket from Julius Edmonds, but Marcellus Vail quickly retaliated. The junior guard ignited the offense with a three-pointer followed by two layups, pushing Campbellsville ahead early. While the visiting Tigers matched the pace early on, Dalton Kramer managed to keep an open gap in the score, helping Campbellsville maintain a stronghold on the lead. Vail's offensive onslaught continued throughout the first half, as he scored bucket after bucket from both short and long range to lead the charge.

The Tigers' sharp shooting from beyond the arc increased as the half progressed. Ra Briggs entered the game and immediately made an impact, connecting on multiple three-pointers. Taveon Smith and TyShay Epps worked together to close the period strong, with Epps hitting a jumper assisted by Smith to help Campbellsville take a commanding 44-27 lead into the break, nearing a 20-point advantage.

Much like the first half, Georgetown led the scoring in the opening minutes of the second period, but Kramer was not far behind. The tension on the court was palpable as the teams exchanged threes and layups. Despite Georgetown's attempts to dominate the action through Zion Harmon and Edmonds, Campbellsville continued to hold the upper hand.

Campbellsville reached its largest lead of the night at 19 points, 63-44, halfway through the second half following a three-pointer from Briggs. The visiting Tigers tried to chip away at the deficit with back-to-back threes from Bubba Leavell and Isaiah Mason, but the host Tigers' momentum was too strong to topple.

Georgetown's fouls continuously returned Campbellsville to the charity stripe, where Kramer and Parker Jones converted free throws to preserve the lead. Kramer finished the night 9-of-11 from the line. Although Georgetown closed the game with two late three-pointers, it was not enough to overcome Campbellsville's offensive firepower, as the Tigers secured the 86-76 victory.
