The weekend started smoothly for the Tigers at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon, where they completely dismantled Earlham College in a 7-0 sweep.
Campbellsville easily secured the opening doubles point, with the No. 2 pair of
Belen Cavallero and
Evdokiia Volkova and the No. 3 tandem of
Ekaterina Amosova and
Valentina Curli both posting perfect 6-0 victories. Transitioning to singles, the Tigers were virtually untouchable. Amosova (No. 1), Volkova (No. 3), Cavallero (No. 4),
Jimena Palomo (No. 5), and
Miho Akita (No. 6) all secured 6-0, 6-0 double-bagel victories. Curli was equally dominant at No. 2 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0 to finalize the sweep.
The competition ramped up significantly on Saturday as the Tigers traveled to Lawrenceville, Ga., to face #16 Georgia Gwinnett and the College of Coastal Georgia.
The host Grizzlies took an early 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point with wins at the top two flights. However, the Campbellsville duo of Amosova and Curli provided a spark at No. 3 doubles, earning a 6-0 sweep.
Trailing heading into singles, the Tigers showed incredible resilience to pull off the upset. While Georgia Gwinnett picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, the Tigers controlled the rest of the board. Cavallero battled to a 7-6, 6-4 straight-set win at No. 2 singles. At No. 4, Palomo dropped her first set but fought back to clinch a gritty three-set victory (4-6, 6-5, 7-1). The bottom of the lineup slammed the door shut on the upset bid, as Akita won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and
Juanita Quintero rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6, securing the four points needed for the 4-3 team win.
With a quick turnaround on Saturday afternoon, Campbellsville faced Coastal Georgia.
Coastal Georgia claimed the initial momentum by winning a tight doubles point, edging out the Tigers 6-4 at No. 2 and 7-6 at No. 3. Cavallero and Volkova did pick up a strong 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles for the Tigers.
In singles action, Coastal Georgia managed to secure the victory with straight-set wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5. Cavallero remained a bright spot for Campbellsville, earning the team's lone point with an impressive 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. The matches at No. 4 and No. 6 went unfinished as the 4-1 team result was clinched.
