KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Following a strong start to the 2026 spring season and a marquee victory over a highly-ranked opponent, the Campbellsville University women's tennis team has earned national recognition, landing in the receiving votes category of the latest NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Rating released Wednesday.
The Lady Tigers earned nine points in the national poll, placing them just outside the official Top 25.
Campbellsville has compiled a 7-3 overall record so far this season, showcasing tremendous resilience on the road with a 4-1 road record. The undeniable highlight of Campbellsville's resume came on March 14th in Lawrenceville, Georgia, when the Lady Tigers stunned host #20 Georgia Gwinnett College with a 4-3 upset victory to secure their first marquee win of the year. Furthermore, the Lady Tigers' only recent blemish on their schedule came later that same afternoon in a hard-fought 4-1 loss to Coastal Georgia, a team that used that victory to climb into the Top 25 at #25 in this week's poll.
Campbellsville's success has been anchored by tremendous depth in singles play, where the team holds a combined 38-20 record across all dual matches. Graduate student
Miho Akita has been nearly untouchable, leading the roster with an 8-1 singles record while currently riding a four-match win streak.
Further down the lineup,
Belen Cavallero (6-2),
Jimena Palomo (6-2), and
Evdokiia Volkova (6-4) have consistently delivered crucial points for the Tigers. Cavallero boasts a team-high five-match singles win streak, and Palomo is enjoying a four-match streak of her own.
In doubles competition, the Lady Tigers have found steady success at the No. 3 flight, compiling a 7-2 record as a team in that spot. That stability has been driven largely by the pairing of
Ekaterina Amosova and
Valentina Curli, who hold a 7-2 record together. The duo of Cavallero and Volkova has also contributed significantly with a 5-2 mark in paired play.
The Lady Tigers are coming off a dominant 7-0 sweep over Georgetown College on March 21st and will look to validate their national recognition as they dive further into Mid-South Conference play.
