Tigers remain top 5 after suffering first loss of 2026 season in newest NAIA Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Despite pushing their overall record to an elite 21-1, the Campbellsville University men's volleyball team slipped one position to #5 in the fourth edition of the NAIA Men's Volleyball Coaches' Top 15 Poll, released Wednesday by the national office.

The Master's (Calif.) held firm as the unanimous #1 team in the country, riding a 14-0 mark. Park (Mo.) ascended to #2 to remain the only other undefeated program in the Top 15, while Saint Xavier (Ill.) slid to #3. Following a string of signature victories that snapped Saint Xavier's massive win streak, Mount Mercy (Iowa) surged three spots to claim the #4 position, narrowly edging out the Tigers in the voting points (85 to 82).

Campbellsville (21-1, 9-1) has shown resilience over its most recent stretch, emerging victorious in three of its last four contests. The Tigers opened the polling period on March 13 with a commanding 3-0 road sweep over Indiana University East. Returning to the familiar confines of Gosser Gymnasium on March 17, Campbellsville endured its first true trial of the historic 2026 campaign, dropping a hard-fought 3-1 decision to Cumberland University to snap a 19-match winning streak.

However, the Tigers refused to let the momentum wane, immediately returning to their winning ways. Campbellsville bounced back with a 3-1 victory over newly ranked #15 Georgetown College on March 21 behind a surgically precise offensive attack. They followed that up with a gritty, straight-set sweep of Brescia University on March 24th, closing the period on a high note and re-establishing their dominance at the net.

Statistically, the Tigers remain one of the most formidable and multifaceted squads in the nation. The Campbellsville offense is putting down a heavy 13.04 kills per set while hitting .290 as a collective unit. Junior setter Alonzo Vega has been the elite architect of the attack, distributing 10.96 assists per set. Defensively, the Tigers continue to construct a suffocating wall, registering 2.06 blocks per frame, backed by a relentless backcourt that scoops up 10.69 digs per set.

The #5 Tigers will look to climb back up the national rankings as they pack their bags for a weekend road trip. Campbellsville travels to face Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on Friday, March 27, before taking on Oakland City University on Saturday, March 28th.
