CU runners ninth at Cedarville 8K

The Campbellsville University men's cross country team traveled to Cedarville, Ohio Saturday to compete in the 19th annual Cedarville University Friendship Invitational. The Tigers faced tough competition with schools such as Ashland, Cedarville and unattached runners from Ohio State, as the CU men finished ninth of 16 teams.

Campbellsville was led by Geovani Popoca, who finished 23rd with a time of 26:27 in the 8k race. Will Cox followed Popoca with a 44th-place finish with a time of 27:10. Qualm Reed was 69th in the time of 28:15. Jonathon Pernell finished 90th in 29:01. Armando Pina was 104th with a time of 29:37. Not far behind him was fellow teammate Dashan Craft finishing 108th place at 29:40. Wes Colvin finished 118th and a time of 30:23. James Linker placed 126th running the time of 31:12, David Kays finished 135th in the time of 31:43 and Matt Oliver was the final Tiger runner, coming in 159th and running 34:16.

The Tigers will take a week off from competition and hope to gain back fellow Tigers Erin Collins and Chad Payne from injury.  Tyler Nilson looks to rejoin the team as well as he ran unattached Saturday, finishing 54th with a time of 27:27. Campbellsville's next meet will be close to home, running Oct. 3 for the Greater Louisville Invitational in Louisville, Ky.
