Cox places sixth in cross country opener

Freshman Will Cox was less than two seconds away from a Top 5 finish in his first collegiate cross country race Saturday, finishing sixth and helping lead Campbellsville University to a third-place finish at the Franklin College Sodexo Grizzly Invite.
 
Cox, a New Albany, Ind. native, posted a time of 27:04.80 in his home state and was 31.16 seconds behind lead runner Austin Stiles of Wilmington College.
Qualaun Reed and Jonathan Pernell followed Cox's lead, finishing 15th and 17th, respectivellly with times of 28:27.23 and 28:31.20. Armando Pina had the fourth-best time on the team, finishing  No. 30 overall with a time of 29:32.32. Dashan Craft was 41st with a time of 30:12.11, followed by Wes Colvin's time of 30:34.81 and David Kays' 31:53.80. James Linker was 60th with a time of 32:11.63.

Franklin College won the race, placing four of its five runners in the Top 20.

Campbellsville will race again Sept. 12 at the Centre College Invitational in Danville, Ky.
