With three lifetime best times and three other season bests, Campbellsville University's men's and women's cross country teams each finished third in the Mid-South Conference championships held in Portsmouth, Ohio.
"I'm very happy with our third place finish," said coach Hilary Cebulko. "We went out there and ran our best and that is all I can ask of them."
Amy Etherington, Versailles, Ky., closed out her MSC senior year with an all-conference performance, running a lifetime best 19:28, good for 10th place and the top CU female finisher. Another senior,
Tawny Vilchis, Long Beach, Calif., ran her season best of 19:47 and a 12th place finish. Three other Lady Tiger runners set season-best times,
Daisy Perez (25th, 21:15),
Natasha Janes (33rd, 22:00) and
Kasey Vitkus (43rd, 22:34)
Maggie Mattingly ran a 19:59, good for 13th place and
Summer Rines dropped in at 21st with a 20:56.
Lauren Little, Amy Wesley and
Erin Collins finished 29th, 32nd and 44th, respectively, with times of 21:38, 21:43 and 22:37.
"We had several athletes to run personal bests," said Cebulko. "It's a great way to finish out the conference season."
On the men's side, Norwalk, Calif. senior
Qualaun Reed finished 17th to top CU runners with a 27:27. Freshmen
Andrew Simmons (Owensboro, Ky.) and
Christian Black (Radcliff, Ky.) ran lifetime best races and finished second and third for the Tigers. Simmons' 20th place finish overall was in the time of 27:33 and Black's 29th place finish was run in 28:17.
Dashan Craft (39th, 29:17),
Armando Pina (40th, 29:37),
David McKellar (58th, 33:15),
Bradley Harris (62nd, 34:40) and
Matt Oliver (68th, 36:30) closed out the Campbellsville men.
"They went out there and competed," said Cebulko. "They all ran the best they could."
Shawnee State won the nine-team women's race with University of the Cumberlands finishing second. Shawnee also won the men's race with Georgetown finishing second
Campbellsville has one more meet in Cedarville, Ohio on Saturday when the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) meet is held.
