OWENSBORO, Ky. -- Campbellsville's men's and women's cross country both experienced personal record times from their top runners Saturday, Oct. 15 in the Fast Cats Invitational at Yellow Creek Park.
Andrew Simmons posted an lifetime best time of 27:06.22 to lead the Tigers to a fifth-place finish in the men's 8K, while
Sarah Johnson PRed at 20:07.82 to pace the Lady Tigers to an eighth-place finish in the women's 5K.
Simmons, an Owensboro native, shaved 30 seconds off his personal record from 2010 and nearly a minute of his time from Oct. 7 as he placed 12th in the race. He was joined in the Top 20 was Tiger freshman Jacob Holz, who placed 19th with a time of 27:331.48. The Men's squad faced tough competition but finished less than seven minutes behind the tournament winner, NCAA Division I program Austin Peay State University. CU's men's average time was 28:41.29.
On the women's side, Johnson was one of three runners to place in the Top 50. She finished 28
th after dropping almost a half minute off of her previous best.
Rebekah Southwood also had a good showing placing 49
th with a time of 20:56.62. Finishing only two seconds behind Southwood was
Lauren Little, who placed 50
th.
The men's and women's cross country teams will return to action Oct. 22 at the Southeastern Classic in Rome, Ga.
