Box Score HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Two fumbles and 10 points in the final minute of play sealed a Campbellsville University comeback against the Kentucky Christian University Knights, 24-21, Saturday afternoon at Huntington High School. The win pulled the Tigers even in Mid-South Conference East Division play at 2-2 and snapped a four-game losing streak.
Senior placekicker
David Hon won the game for the Tigers with a 32-yard field goal as time expired. The winning drive was set up after
William Harris recovered a fumble, forced by a
Derek Mincy sack, on the Knight's 17 yard line. It was the Tigers' third fumble recovery of the day and second straight. Two plays earlier,
Blake Young came up with a big fumble recovery on the KCU 8, setting up an 8-yard touchdown run for
Wayne Coffee and game-tying point after kick by Hon.

Campbellsville rallied back from a once 21-7 deficit in the first half. After stalling on their opening drive of the game, the Tigers punted to KCU, placing the ball inside the 20 at the 16-yard line. After being shut out offensively last year by the Campbellsville defense, KCU came out firing on the first play. Graham Johnston found Kane Anderson on an 84-yard touchdown pass, taking 12 seconds off the clock, for a 7-0 lead. Jared Cobb had all three point after kicks for the Knights on the day.
The Tigers were slow to get going offensively, punting on their next two series and then having a
Nathan Cooper pass picked off at their own 23 by Mike Ritter. The interception led to an 18-yard touchdown pass from Johnston to Caleb Cox and a 14-0 Knights' lead.
Cooper answered though, firing a 21-yard first-down pass to
Adam Robertson to push CU into KCU territory for the first time. After
Gerwan Brewer punched the ball down to the Knight's 25, Cooper found
Stan Warrenhuffman for a record-breaking touchdown catch of 12 yards. Hon's PAT cut the Knight's lead in half, 14-7, early in the second quarter. The catch was Warrenhuffman's 19
th career receiving touchdown, the most by any CU Tiger.
On the Tigers' next drive,
Gerwan Brewer scored on a 19-yard touchdown that would lead to a possible tied ballgame, but the play was negated by a holding penalty. Cooper found Warrenhuffman inside the 5 on the following play, but then was picked off in the end zone by Josh Cobb, who leapt over top of
Diaz Bolden in double coverage.
KCU answered with another touchdown, this time a 34-yard pass from Johnston to Beau Dailey to go up 21-7. The Knights drove again in the final minute following a Tiger turnover. However, Young blocked a field goal to end the first half and keep the Tigers' deficit at 21-7.
Early in the third quarter, Cooper used a 40-yard pass to Bolden to set up a 20-yard touchdown catch by
Bobby Leonard, who caught the ball falling to the turf on his back. With 12 minutes remaining in the third quarter, the Tigers were back within a touchdown.
The game remained a defensive strong hold for the next 26 minutes.
Dwight Houston and
Blake Young took turns pressuring the KCU quarterback, as the Tigers collected five sacks in the game. Young had 1.5 sacks and nine total tackles in the win. Houston recorded his 9.5 sack of the season, the most ever by a CU linebacker.
With a little over two minutes to play, Campbellsville took advantage of a personal foul and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties against the Knights to move CU into the KCU red zone. Ritter, who picked off Cooper three times in the game, knocked down a fourth-down pass though with a minute to play. That turnover on downs, set up the final minute of the Tigers' miraculous comeback.
Campbellsville (4-5, 2-2 MSC East) will return home Saturday, Nov. 5 for its final MSC East division game of the season at 1:30 p.m., ET as it hosts the University of Virginia's College at Wise at Finley Stadium and HIG Field.
