Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University women's tennis opened its 2011 season Saturday with a 6-3 loss at Bellarmine University.
"Our girls fought very hard today, but came up just short after a tough No. 2 doubles loss and tight sets down the lineup. We have a lot of underclassmen, and we are excited to have the upperclassmen of
Anita Henestrosa and
Stacey Drew anchoring our lineup," CU head coach
Kyle Caven said.
Tanya Murtagh and Henestrosa, ranked No. 3 in preseason national rankings, each won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, in addition to pairing up for a No. 1 doubles win for the Lady Tigers.
"They are proving they will be a heavy tandem to reckon with in the MSC this year," Caven said.
Gledys Salazar and Aspen Edwards challenged for another Lady Tiger win at No. 2 doubles, but fell short to Emily Roebker and Jamie Claeys, , 9-7.
The Lady Tigers travel to Western Kentucky University next Saturday.
"We are looking forward to facing Western Kentucky to gain even more valuable experience," Caven said.
