LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University rallied to win tiebreakers at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles Saturday night to spark a 6-2 win over Georgetown College in the Mid-South Conference Tournament semifinal at the Louisville Indoor Racquet Club.
Â
After rain delayed the tournament semifinals to an 8 p.m. ET start and moved the match indoors, Georgetown saw a bit more of a boost than Campbellsville initially. Jumping out to lead all three doubles matches, Georgetown looked to avenge a 9-0 loss to Campbellsville from the regular season.
However, CU All-Conference doubles players
Tanya Murtagh and
Anita Henestrosa, along with honorable mention doubles team
Gleidys Salazar and
Aspen Edwards, had different plans. The duos each rallied to win their doules sets in a tie beaker 9-8. At No. 1 doubles, Campbellsville won the tie breaker 7-2, but Salazar and Edwards had a much closer match to win the battle with an 8-6 tiebreak.
Murtagh, Henestrosa, Salazar and Edwards went on to win at singles, with Salazar putting the match away with a close 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.
Campbellsville (15-4) will host defending MSC Tournament champion Lindsey Wilson College in the 2011 MSC Tournament Championship on Monday, April 25 at 3 p.m. The matches will be played at Campbellsville University's tennis courts. The winner of the match will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
