Box Score GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Urgency and momentum belonged to the visiting Tigers Saturday as Campbellsville University responded to its first conference road loss to down Mid-South Conference rival, and third-ranked Georgetown College, 70-65, in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
The win is the first for Campbellsville men's basketball at Georgetown since January 2006 and only the second in Keith Adkins' 13 seasons as head coach. It also completed a road sweep for Campbellsville women's and men's basketball at Georgetown for the first time since Jan. 9, 1999.

"Give all of our guys the credit that we were able to make a change that quick in how we handle adversity," Adkins said. "The way we competed was different (than Thursday night's loss at St. Catharine), the way we handled adversity was different, the way we played the game with desperation was different. Forget about stats, if we play with the demeanor we played with today, we're going to be pretty good and have a chance to be really good.
"One of the things we've talked about this season are we want to avoid losing streaks. I know that sounds simple, but you can't pile up one loss with another, it's like a snowball effect. We're going to lose one or two, here and there, but we want to avoid losing streaks, and when you can put an end to losing really quickly, you can start putting wins together."
Scoring was sparse in the first half, as Campbelsville took a 26-21 lead into the break. Georgetown scored on its opening possession for its only lead of the first half, as Campbellsville passed the orange and black Tigers with an 8-6 lead around the 10 minute mark of the opening half.
Addison Smith stretched CU's lead to eight, 20-12, with the first 3-pointer of either team with 4:38 to play, but Monty Wilson quickly answered with a 3.
Georgetown opened the second half on an 8-2 run, as Wilson hit a 3 to give the third-ranked Tigers their first lead in more than 15 minutes. It was short lived, as Campbellsville attacked on a 17-4 run to stretch its lead into double figures for the first time. Justin Ennis hit back-to-back baskets for CU's largest lead of the night, 45-33, with 11:58 remaining.
Campbellsville was unable to completely put the home team away, but never let the lead slip despite Georgetown pulling within a possession multiple times down the stretch. Jordan Myers and Vernon Payne each played the final 10 minutes of the game with four personal fouls, while Georgetown lost two of its starters, Garel Craig and Montavious Marc, due to fouls.
Late in the game, Georgetown cut a five point deficit to one, 66-65, with 1:28 to play. However, Smith and Myers were a combined 4-for-4 at the free throw line to help ice the win.
"We followed the game summary from the Lindsey Wilson game, and Georgetown never led in that game, so we thought if we could get out to a lead and not make the mistakes we've talked about, then we could get out of here with a win," Adkins said. "We knew it would be difficult. This is a very good basketball team, even though they're struggling in conference play. They've got a lot of talent and when that talent gets rolling, they can beat anybody."
Scoring was spread out among five Campbellsville Tigers, led by 12 points from Payne and Ennis. Myers and Smith finished with 11 and Malik Thomas had 10. Filip Stanic had nine points on 3-for-3 shooting from beyond the arc at crucial times. Bryton Taylor had five points.
Allan Thomas and Wilson led Georgetown with 14 points, followed by a double-double 11 points and 12 rebounds by Vic Moses and 10 by Craig.
Campbellsville (7-2, 3-2 MSC) is now 2-0 against NAIA Top 10 teams this season. CU will return to action Dec. 7-8 as it hosts No. 22 Martin Methodist College and No. 5 Robert Morris University in its annual Lou Cunningham Classic. Tip off with MMC is scheduled for 9 p.m. EST Friday, Dec. 7 in Powell Athletic Center. Lindsey Wilson College and Robert Morris will open the tournament at 7 p.m.
