CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Campbellsville University posted two third-place event finishes Saturday with four student-athletes claiming All-America status in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Cedarville University Field House.
The Lady Tigers' first All-Americans came with a third-place finish in the 4x200-meter relay.
Nathelie Zetrenne started the race, followed by
Tiosha Beasley,
Lauren Little and
Porshia Hutcherson. Zetrenne started the race with a split below 27 seconds and Beasley followed with a 27-second split to keep CU in front in its heat. By the time Hutcherson received the baton, she was 20 to 25 meters out of the lead, but pushed her way up to a photo finish in the heat, finishing 0.1 seconds behind host team Ceadarville. The Lady Tigers were .30 behind the first-place team from Spring Arbor.
"I really thought we had a chance to finish in the Top 3, and were a photo finish from second," said Joe Stockton, CU track and field coach.
Beasely earned her second All-America honor of the day with a third-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 11.13 meters. She also finished fifth in the long jump, helping to contribute to 16 of CU's 22 team points.
"Tiosha did a great job. She made a jump she needed to make to put herself in the lead, but unfortunately the other two girls had a jump left and ended up beating her," Stockton said.
Beasley will compete again next week in an indoor meet to be determined as she prepares for the NAIA National Championships in Geneva, Ohio, March 1-3.
In addition to starting the 4x200, Zetrenne added four more team points by placing fifth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.83. The other two team points came in the 4x400-meter relay with a seventh-place time of 4:13.06. Members of the 4x400 relay team were Starsha Fant, Little, Hutcherson and
Jasmine Graham.
The Lady Tigers competed in six other events in the meet, including the distance medley, which just missed being Top 8. CU's medley team finished ninth with a time of 13:46.14. Also, freshman
Myra Rose set a personal record with a jump of 4-feet, 11 inches.
"Myra landed some excellent flips. This is a girl that was first put in a high jump her senior year (of high school). She'll be clearing 5 feet soon," Stockton said.
Campbellsville placed 11
th in the 17-team field at the NCCAA Indoor Championships. The meet concludes the 2012 indoor track season for CU as a team.
