Beasley sets triple jump record to become NAIA All-American

GENEVA, Ohio - In only its second season as a program, the Campbellsville University women's indoor track and field program claimed its first NAIA All-American Saturday. Junior jumper Tiosha Beasley set a school record in the triple jump event to finish seventh overall at the NAIA Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships in the Spire Institute.

Beasley's mark of 11.37 meters (37 feet, 3.75 inches) beat her national qualifying distance and previous record (11.16) by .21 meters. It also beat her outdoor triple jump mark of 11.32 meters.

The record-setting jump came on her third and final attempt in the preliminaries after leaping 11.20 and 10.89. It was good for sixth-place entering the NAIA finals. In the final round, Beasley jumped 11.24, 10.81 and 10.71 in her three attempts.

Shorter University's Tamala Daley won the national championship with a mark of 12.13 meters on her second attempt in the finals. Another Shorter Hawk, Dominique Woods, placed third with a mark of 12.05.

Azusa Pacific claimed the overall team championship for the first time since 2004.

The NAIA championships close the Lady Tigers' second indoor track & field season. The 2012 outdoor season is scheduled to begin March 23 at the College of Mount Saint Joseph Outdoor Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio.
