MOBILE, Ala. - The Lady Tigers' run for a national title fell two wins shy Thursday, as Campbellsville University fell to the defending national champion Dallas Baptist University, 5-0, in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Tournament at the Mobile Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.
The match was the first-ever national semifinal appearance of the women's tennis program, which finishes the season with a 14-8 record.
"Our girls had a great tournament and we keep progressing as a women's program going one step farther than last year in making the semifinals. The field is tough here and we will keep getting better as three Top 15 NAIA teams come into the NCCAA next year," said CU head coach
Kyle Caven.
"I'm so proud of our girls. A majority of our lineup is freshman and they are buying into the system we have set in place. I can't wait until next year to get them back on campus to start working again."
Campbellsville pushed its way to match point in No. 3 doubles but was unable to steal a win as DBU started the day with a 3-0 advantage before winning No. 1 and No. 4 singles.
DBU will play Palm Beach Atlantic in the national championship match Friday at 9 a.m. CDT. The two teams are the only teams to beat Campbellsville in the tournament.
