Pierce is NCCAA All-American, Cross Country teams finish season

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Brett Pierce continued his success Saturday, building off a sixth-place Mid-South Conference finish on Nov. 9 for an All-American sixth-place finish at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division I Men's Cross Country Championships, Nov. 16 at Cedarville University's Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.

Pierce finished with a time of 26:04.94 to lead the CU men's cross country team to a 12th place finish among 24 teams. There were 173 runners in the NCCAA DI race.

In the women's action, CU finished 21st of 25 teams.

The Tigers' next best time behind Pierce belonged to Dylan Ford at 27:07.32. Ford was 54th among the 173 runners in the NCCAA DI race. Andrew Simmons followed with a 27:30.25 and finished 72nd in his final collegiate race, while Joey Hartlage was 87th with a time of 27:46.81. Other CU runners were Mason Dunbar (115th, 28:29.80), Bradley Harris (136th, 29:05.36) and Wade Harris (142nd, 29:17.82).

The Lady Tigers were led by Maggie Calvert, who ran a personal best 20:50.14 to finish 102nd among 180 runners. Calvert's lead was followed by Sarah Johnson (113th, 21:07.89) and Mallory Vest (124th, 21:15.53), Rebekah Southwood (129th, 21:21.57), Megan Charity (129th, 21:55.16), Shelby Courtney (15th, 22:23.49) and Jennifer Hatley (172nd, 24:01.72).

The NCCAA meet concludes CU's season as a team, but Pierce will compete next Saturday, Nov. 23 at the NAIA Men's Cross Country Championships in Lawrence, Kan.
