WILMORE, Ky. – A one hour weather delay Saturday didn't dampen the Campbellsville University men's cross country team's hopes of a strong season opener. Brett Pierce, Dylan Ford and Joey Hartlage finished 1-2-3 individually to lead Campbellsville to a first-place finish at the Asbury University Invitational.
Running the first of two early season 5K races, Pierce took the individual top spot with a time of 16:46.06. Ford followed at 17:02.03 and Hartlage was less than 15 seconds behind at 17:15.78. Mason Dunbar wrapped up the Tigers' Top 5 with a seventh-place individual finish at 17:39.00.
The team is the first for invitational victory for CU men's cross country since the 2007 Georgetown College Invitational.
Pierce's time is his fastest cross country 5K time since 2010, while Ford and Hartlage posted career personal records for a cross country 5K.
Campbellsville will return to action Saturday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. EDT in the Queens City Invitational 5K in Cincinnati, Ohio.
