WILMORE, Ky. — Tiger Cross Country got off to a good 2014 start to their season, with the men winning and the women finishing third in their respective five-team fields at the Asbury University Invitational.
"This was a great first race for both teams," said coach Hilary Lakes. "The ladies did really well, showing some great improvement from our first trial."
Brett Pierce, Joey Hartlage, Dylan Ford and Adam Sandidge finished 1-2-3-4 in the men's run and Wade Harris' top 10 finish at No. 9 gave the Tigers a team score of 19, beating Lindsey Wilson, Asbury, Brescia and Union.
"The guys really came out strong today," continued Lakes. "We still have a ways to go and a lot more races to continue to show improvement."
It marked the second consecutive Asbury Invitational title for the Tigers.
Sarah Johnson led the women with a top 10 finish at No. 8. Maggie Calvert (13th), Mallory Vest (14th) and Abbi Wicke (16th) collected top 20 finishes, while Brandi Thomas finished in 21st place.
"I'm really proud of both teams and how they raced today and excited to see where they will go as a team the rest of the season."
