MARIETTA, Ga. — Campbellsville's Elliott Young scored a season-high 20 points and blistered the nets with six 3-pointers to lead the sixth-ranked Tigers over Life University, 85-74.

"That's a great win for us," said CU head coach Keith Adkins. "Coming off two bad performances against conference schools on the road and then staying on the road to come all the way to Georgia and playing a tough Life team can take its toll on you. We needed this win on the road and the guys needed this to get back on the positive side of things."

Adkins inserted Young into the starting lineup for just the second time all season, and the sophomore from Mt. Washington, Ky., did not disappoint, scoring 15 points in the first half. Young knocked down two of his six shots from long range in the opening two minutes and hit five total in the first half.

In the second half, Life didn't give Young much space, as he only hit one shot in three attempts.

"That's one of the reasons we inserted him into the starting lineup today," said Adkins. "We needed a lift, and he has earned the opportunity to play more than just 10-15 minutes a game. I told him that, and he took advantage. We need Elliott down the home stretch to be able to knock down shots and rebound."

Not to be out done by Young, Eric Gaines and Damontre Harris both recorded double-doubles. Gaines finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the year and Harris picked up his 12th double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tigers out rebounded Life, 42-37.

D'Von Campbell was also a spark from beyond the arc, hitting 4-of-6, and was 5-of-10 overall for 17 points.

"D'Von came in and did not feel well today," said Adkins. "He came in with a migraine headache, but did not let that get to him during the game. Darius (Clement) stepped up and handled the defensive pressure Life was applying, and I think this guard duo is one of the best in the conference."

Campbellsville fed off Young's hot start to heat up from beyond the arc. Rob Robinson and Miles Rice each scored 3s of their own in the first half, in addition to Young and Campbell.

CU finished hitting 12-of-28 3-pointers, good for 42.9 percent. Campbellsville also shot 48.3 percent (29-of-60) overall from the floor - it's highest mark since a Dec. 15 win over Ohio Christian.

The TIgers jumped out to a 15-11 lead on an alley-oop pass from Young to Damontre Harris. The big dunk was Harris' first of three slams on the afternoon. He later followed with a fast break and another monsterous dunk with 16:35 left in the game, posturizing Life's Donterris Clinkscales.

CU took its first double-digit lead, 48-38, on a Campbell 3 and then extended the lead on the next possession with another deep ball to push ahead 51-38 at half time. Campbell scored the Tigers' final eight points in the first half.

Adkins' club held on to its double-digit lead until the 10-minute mark in the second half when Juwan Burden hit a 3-pointer for the Running Eagles to cut the lead to eight, 69-61.

Campbell pushed CU back in front by 12 points with another 3 at the 7:41 mark.

With 6:07 to go, Campbellsville took its biggest lead of the game, 80-62, on two free throws by Young, but Life started to chip away late. The Running Eagles finished the game on a 12-5 run to whittle the lead down to nine points twice. Darius Clement knocked down free throws in the final minute to push the Tigers back out to 11 for their 14th double-digit win of the season and fourth in conference action.

The win snaps a two-game skid and moves the Tigers 20-3 overall and 7-2 inside Mid-South Conference. Life University drops its seventh game in a row to move to 9-11 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

Campbellsville end its three-game road span when it returns home to Powell Athletic Center Thursday, Feb. 5. The Tigers will put their 12-0 home record on the line when they host Lindsey Wilson College (13-10, 4-7 MSC) for an 8 p.m. tipoff in a BLACK OUT matchup against its Highway 55 rival. The women's game will tipoff at 6 p.m. EST.

Lindsey Wilson College snapped a four-game losing streak Saturday with a 98-93 upset of No. 2 University of Pikeville (21-2, 8-2 MSC). The UPike loss pulls Campbellsville within a half game of first place in the MSC behind Pikeville and Georgetown (20-3, 8-2 MSC).

"You can't tell me from top to bottom there is a better conference out there, " said Adkins. "It doesn't matter where we have to go on the road, it will be a tough place to play and we need that on our side Thursday night against Lindsey Wilson."

Following Thursday's matchup, the Tigers will remain home Saturday, Feb. 7 to host Cumberland (Tenn.) at 4 p.m. EST. CU is partnering with Sports Reach and Audience 1 Sport for the sixth annual shoe drive. Bring new or gently used shoes or sock to the game for FREE admission. The doubleheader between Campbellsville and Cumberland starts at 2 p.m. EST with the women's game.

Both MSC home doubleheaders will be televised live on WLCU-TV (Comcast Channel 10) in Campbellsville, as well as broadcast on 88.7 FM The Tiger. Jay Turner and Matt Payton will call the action.
