CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In the first NAIA Cross Country National Championship appearance in school history, Campbellsville University finished in 20th place at McAlpine Creek Park.
Sophomore
Adam Sandidge led the way for Campbellsville, crossing the finish line with a time of 25:42.
Senior's
Brett Pierce,
Dylan Ford and
Joey Hartlage ran their final race as Tigers. Pierce finished in 62
nd place with a time of 25:58, Ford placed 140
th (27:11) and Hartlage placed 175
th (27:11).
Campbellsville also had freshman
Bret Crawford in the field and he placed third onn the team with a time of 26:07.
Corbin Harris (234
th, 28:35) and
Zach Napier (243
rd, 29:37) rounded out the seven Tigers in the field.
"I am so proud of the men's team and what they accomplished today and this year as a team," said coach
Hilary Lakes. "We came in as the 28
th ranked team and had a goal of Top 25. We raced well and exceeded that with a 20
th place finish. We raced well today and it was a great day for all. We have had a great saeason as a team and finished strong."
Oklahoma City University won the team national championship with its top five runners in the Top 34. Arya Bahreini led the Stars with a second place finish (24:15).
Geoffrey Kipchumba from William Carey won the individual title by 29 seconds over Benard Keter from Wayland Baptist with a first place finish of 23:55. Keter finished one second in front of Bahreini with a time of 24:14.
