Tiger XC wins first-ever Mid-South Conference title

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — It was a day of champions for the Campbellsville Tigers. The CU men's cross country team was the first to make history and won the Mid-South Conference Championship today at Phil Moore Park – the programs first-ever title.

Campbellsville now qualifies as a team to the NAIA National Tournament which takes place in Charlotte, N.C. on Nov. 21. 

The Tigers scored 37 points and had three runners in the Top 3 and the fourth and fifth finished in the Top 16. Brett Pierce led the way with a second place finish. He was on the heels of John-Paul Williamson from Lindsey Wilson all day but missed the individual title by just one second. Pierce finished with an 8K time of 25:44, while Williamson crossed the line at 25:43.

Adam Sandidge and Brett Crawford both finished third and fourth, respectively with times of 25:50 and 26:10.

Joey Hartlage just missed the Top 10 and finished with a 27:02 8K and fellow senior Dylan Ford clocked in at 27:10.

"I am so proud of what the guys went out and did today," said Lakes. "I've never been more proud and honored to coach such a great team and they have worked so hard for this, this year the past four years for my seniors. They worked so hard and have accomplished so much this year and it's an amazing group of guys."

The Tigers also had other runners in the field: 
Zach Napier, 31st; Corbin Harris, 32nd; Will Ballard, 41st; Wade Harris, 43rd; Brandon Wiseheart, 50th; Luke Camp, 60th.

In the men's field, NAIA power Shawnee State finished in second place with a total of 43 team points. It is the first time in five seasons the Bears have been lifted from the podium.

University of the Cumberlands was third with 69 points while Lindsey Wilson was fourth with 94 points. Cumberland University (117), Georgetown College (178), Pikeville (225) and St. Catharine (246) rounded out the standings.

On the women's side, the Lady Tigers placed sixth. Campbellsville finished with 135 points while Shawnee State won its sixth-consecutive title with 18 points.

Women's Results

Maggie Calvert led the way for CU, finishing in 19th place and a time of 20:28 in the 5K. Mallory Vest finished in 27th place crossing the finish line at 21 minutes.

The Lady Tigers also had a few PRs broken on the weekend.  Julianna Bradley finished with a time of 21:09 to place 29th and Brandi Thomas followed with a 21:40 5K to place 38th for a career best time.. Abby Wicke also finished with a time of 22:08.

Another PR came away of Bailey Foxworth who finished in 52nd place with a time of 22:55.

"The girls did really well today," said Lakes. We had some PR's but also some didn't and struggled. The effort was there all day and the girls went out and raced like it was their last time. I am very proud of the way they competed this fall."
