CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – For the second time in six seasons, Campbellsville University men's and women's basketball have claimed the Mid-South Conference regular season crown in the same season. Both teams also claimed the MSC regular season in 2009-10 and did so three times in the KIAC during the 1980s.

Ninth-ranked Campbellsville trounced the seventh-ranked Georgetown Tigers, 87-66, Saturday to complete a 16-0 home record and win a share of the MSC title with No. 3 University of Pikeville. The win avenges an 88-66 loss by then-No. 1 CU at then-No. 17 Georgetown on Jan. 22. 

"Give our guys all the credit. They were focused. They saw something they wanted, and they went out and got it," Campbellsville head coach Keith Adkins said. "Over the last 24 to 36 hours we talked about being given a gift with Georgetown and Pikeville losing on Thursday night, all of a sudden we had an opportunity to play for a championship. You never take an opportunity like this and let it slip away, and our guys didn't."

The undefeated home schedule is believed to be the first in Campbellsville University men's basketball history. 

"That's part of having a great season. If you can protect your home court, then you know you're going to pick up some wins out on the road here and there," Adkins said. "We did the job at home, and then low and behold we've had a great season. Take away the Shawnee loss (Jan. 24) and all the other losses were to ranked teams on the road. That's the way you build a good resume entering the postseason."

Campbellsville opened the game similarly as it did Thursday in its 75-56 win over Shawnee State University, knocking down early shots to build an eight-point lead. Senior guard D'Von Campbell knocked down the first two 3s of the night for a 6-2 lead, and then Rob Robinson and Quin Richardson hit back-to-back to make to make it 20-12. 

"Hitting shots early is paramount for us. It absolutely changes things. It changes how people are going to defend you. It changes the way people are going to defend the ball screen, which is huge in our offense," Adkins said. 

Georgetown responded with an 8-0 run to tie the game, 20-20, on a backdoor layup by Corey Washburn. Washburn gave Georgetown a 21-20 lead with a free throw on the next possession, but it was the only GC lead of the game.

Robinson responded with a go-ahead jumper and Campbellsville clung to a one- or two-possession lead for the next four minutes until building a 12-0 run to pull away. Richardson, a Georgetown, Ky., native, hit three 3s during that stretch to make it 42-27. Campbellsville entered halftime up 45-31.

Campbellsville opened the second half with Miles Rice steal at half court and rim-bending dunk on the other end by Damontre Harris. It was the first of four demonstrative dunks in the final half for the Florida transfer. He finished with 12 points. Harris made it a 20-point game, 58-38, moments later with an allyoop slam, three minutes into the half.

Campbellsville sustained its lead the rest of the way, allowing only a small 8-0 Georgetown run to cut the margin down to 14 points, 64-50. The run was started by a Mike Walker 3 – the only 3-pointer of the game for Georgetown, which was 1-of-14 from the arc.

Noah Cottrill, who led Georgetown with 90 3-pointers this season, was held to only three attempts.

"Give the guys that guarded Cottrill a lot of credit, starting with Miles Rice. He competed, and then Quin Richardson comes in, and Q's not known for his defense, but was tremendous in chasing him around," Adkins said. "It wasn't only those two support guys that we decided to help off on. Everybody had their hand in a great team defensive effort."

Harris threw down a one-handed jam at the four minute mark, followed by a Campbell basket to push CU back ahead by 20, 83-62. Harris put an exclamation point on the title with another dunk at the 1:18 mark.

Campbell led Campbellsville with 23 points, while Richardson finished with 14 and Robinson had 11. The trio combined for 10-of-18 shooting beyond the arc. Elliot Young had the other CU 3 and finished with 13 points. Eric Gaines led CU on the boards with a game-high 11 rebounds and completed a double-double with 10 points.

McWhorter led Georgetown with 17 points, followed by 10 apiece from Domonique Bull and Kimbro.

Campbellsville (25-5, 12-4 MSC) will be the No. 2 seed in the Mid-South Conference Tournament next week at the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort, Ky. CU will play seven-seed St. Catharine College in the MSC quarterfinals Friday, March 6 at 6 p.m. ET. 

Georgetown (24-6, 11-5 MSC) will be the No. 3 seed and will play six-seed Life University at 8 p.m. ET on Friday.
