WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — (RESULTS) Outdoor track had an impressive showing for both the Tigers and Lady Tigers this weekend at the University of the Cumberlands Invitational. Several top eight finishes allowed both teams to place seventh overall.
Senior Demytreus Gipson qualified once again for the NAIA National Championships this May with a B standard time in the men's 200m dash. Gibson won the event with a time of 21.64, just under half a second off his season best of 21.25 seconds. Gibson also placed fourth in the men's 100-meter dash with a season PR of 10.91 seconds.
Senior JaNaiqua Horne led the Lady Tigers with a second place finish in the women's triple jump with a distance of 10.37m. Horne also finished seventh in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 12.84 seconds, and ninth in the women's javelin with a distance of 28.89-meters
The meet was kicked off with the women's 10,000-meter run, in which senior Jennifer Hatley finished fourth with a time of 52:46.55. The women's 3000-meter steeplechase was led by senior Sarah Johnson, who finished third with a time of 12:10.45. Junior Mallory Vest finished in fifth place with a time of 12:43.15.
P.J. Randles and Clayton Embry went four and five in the men's 100-meter hurdles with times of 15.22 and 15.42 seconds, respectively. Freshman Cathryn Fischer finished fourth in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1.10.50.
The men's 4x800m relay (Joey Hartlage, Ross Allen, Dylan Ford and Adam Sandidge) finished second with a time of 8:29.29, while the women's 4x800m relay (Johnson, Vest, Abby Wicke and Maggie Calvert) placed third with a time of 10:37.27.
Senior Brett Pierce rounded out the track competition with an eighth place finish in the men's 5000-meter run and a time of 16:06.9.
Two-sport athlete Brianna Harman rounded out the field events in the long jump, finishing sixth with a distance of 4.87m.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers will be back in action on Friday, April 17th for the Centre College Twilight in Danville, Ky. It will be the final tune-up as both teams will head into the Mid-South Conference Championships on Friday, April 24 at Lindsey Wilson College.
