BARBOURVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville University archery kicked off its season this past weekend competing at the South Region Intercollegiate 3D Archery Championship hosted by Union College.
The three categories that were in competition this past weekend were: men's bow hunter, women's bow hunter, and recurve.
Christiana French competed in the women's recurve division and scored a total of 191 points. French ended up coming home with a first place plaque in her division.
For the first round of unknown yardage for
Corey Pennington,
Justin Nelson and
Morgen Hatfield had equipment defects that caused their score to be below average. However,
Wade Meredith picked up the slack and led the team with a score of 352 for the men's Bow hunter division. Pennington followed behind with 336,
Joshua Bratcher with 323, Nelson with 320, and
Conner Campbell with 294.
For the women's Bow hunter division,
Kristyn Duncan led the Lady Tigers with a score of 332,
Sierra Waddle fired a 288,
Ariel Emberton finished at 271,
Madison Myatt with 251, and Hatfield with a 251.
"I am very impressed on how the first tournament went," said coach
Larry Creason. "Each archer handled themselves in a very professionally manner and supported one another no manner how they felt they were doing."
Recurve division is a bow that does not have anything on the bow such as sights or stabilizers, and they cannot use a release of any kind. 3-D Bow hunters use a compound bow with a stabilizer at 12 inches and five sight pins. They shot a total of 20 targets each of 3-D animal body targets with a variation of targets from leopards to deer. The first round of 20 targets were unknown distances and then the other 20 were known. These targets ranged from a maximum of 40 yards to a minimum of 20 yards. A perfect overall score for this tournament would be would be 480.
