Box Score LEBANON, Tenn. — Lady Tiger tennis won two points in doubles and four in singles to upset No. 19 Cumberland University on Wednesday, 6-3.
The Lady Tigers start the Mid-South Conference portion of their schedule with a big win and improve to 3-2 on the season.
In doubles, the Lady Tigers won Nos. 1 and 3 but dropped No. 2.
The lone loss in doubles was an 8-1 defeat by
Elizabeth Boik and
Grace Rowe, falling to Sarah Edwards and Marta Ferrando Pea.
Bolor Enkhbayar and
Kyleigh Murray then pulled out an 8-2 victory at No. 3 over Jasmine Shankar and Bele Salazar Yenez to tie the team score at one.
The top doubles duo for CU, Kaede Amano and
Majella Nobile, then put the Lady Tigers ahead 2-1 by winning 8-2 over Franki Jecker and Ainhoa Garjio Garrido.
In singles, Nobile picked up the victory over Shankar at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2) but Cumberland University's Ferrando Pea defeated Enkhbayar (6-5, 7-6).
At No. 1, Amano got behind early but dominated the second and third set. She lost 7-6 to Garijo Garrido in the first set but came back with matching 6-1, 6-1 victories in the second and third to give the Lady Tigers a 4-2 match lead.
Then things got a little interesting. Cumberland's Franki Jecker defeated
Kyleigh Murray, 6-2, 6-0, to pull the match within a point and it went down to Nos. 5-6 singles.
Grace Rowe and
Brooklyn Harris prevailed, though. Rowe won 7-5, 6-3 and Harris defeated her opponents with ease, 6-0, 6-2, for the Lady Tigers to pull the upset.
Campbellsville is now scheduled to host No. 2 Lindsey Wilson College for a tough match on Saturday, March 25. First serve goes up at 2:30 p.m. ET at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex.
