Archery captures seven medals and places fourth at MSC Indoor Championships

MADSIONVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville's archery team collected seven medals at the first-ever Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships en route to a fourth-place finish at the event.
 
Through the first two conference championships – 3D and indoor – the Tigers sit in third place in the conference standings with 7.5 points. University of the Cumberlands leads the conference with 12 points after winning both the 3D and indoor titles.
 
In the Men's Recurve competition, Justin Nelson finished in fourth-place overall after scoring two points each in the semifinals and the finals. Nelson lost 6-2 to University of Pikeville's Devin Gayheart in the semifinals and 6-2 to the Bears' Zachary Johnson in the third-place match.
 
Haley Hatfield grabbed Campbellsville's first medal of the event after finishing second in the Women's Recurve. Hatfield lost 6-0 to Cumberlands' Miranda Lauria.
 
The Tigers had a pair of individuals in the Men's Bowhunter field, where Wade Meredith was eliminated in the first round after scoring 126 points and his opponent Dallas Allen of Bethel University also scored 126 points, but Allen won via tiebreaker. After earning a bye in the first round, Conner Campbell lost 140-135 against Bethel's Dwayne Bell.
 
A trio of Campbellsville competitors took part in the Women's Bowhunter. Kristyn Duncan and Madison Myatt each advanced to the quarterfinals after Myatt beat teammate Ariel Emberton, 132-128 and Duncan edged Cumberlands' Sarah Perkins, 138-135. In the next round both Duncan and Myatt were eliminated after losing to a pair of Patriot individuals.
 
Entering the Basic Bow competition, the men's field featured Joshua Bratcher earning a bye into the final and Daniel Wilson took on Kentucky Christian University's Andrew Howell in the semifinals. Wilson finished third overall after dropping a 6-0 contest to Howell. Bratcher then lost to Howell in the final and earned the silver medal.
 
In the Women's Basic Bow, Christina French and Haley Arnett finished third and fourth, respectively. In the two tournament rounds, Arnett lost 6-0 to top-seeded Briley Hearrnin of Kentucky Christian and French was upset, 7-1, against Olivia Price of the Knights. In the third-place match, French won 6-0 after winning all three matchups against Arnett.
 
Heading into the team portion on the championship, the Campbellsville trio of Duncan, Emberton and Myatt placed second overall. They first beat Pikeville 200-184 in the semifinals, but lost Cumberlands in the championship match, 231-191.
 
In the Men's Basic Bow championship match, Bratcher, French and Wilson took a match from Kentucky Christian, but the Tigers lost the match, 6-2.
 
Hatfield and Nelson won the gold medal in the Mixed Recurve after compiling a qualification score of 880 and was the only team to compete in the field. In the Mixed Bowhunter competition, Campbell and Emberton took down Pikeville, 145-139, to move on to the championship match. The Tiger duo looked to upset top-seeded Cumberlands, but the Patriots won the contest, 156-140.
 
The championship match of the Mixed Basic Bow featured Bratcher and French dropping a 6-0 decision to Kentucky Christian as Campbellsville wrapped up the Mid-South Conference Championships.
 
Following the competition all individuals and teams that finished first in their discipline were named to the First Team All Mid-South Conference, while second-place finishers garnered second team honors.
