WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Campbellsville's archery team placed fourth overall at the Mid-South Conference Outdoor Archery Championships on Sunday afternoon to end the MSC season.
The pair of
Haley Hatfield and
Justin Nelson earned gold in the Mixed Recurve team event, while
Joshua Bratcher,
Christina French and
Daniel Wilson won the Men's Basic Bow team title. As a team, the Tigers compiled eight total medals, with the Mixed Recurve not included as Campbellsville was lone team in the discipline.
At the conclusion of the championships, it was announced that
Kristyn Duncan was named the MSC Co-Female Shooter of the Year with University of the Cumberlands' Tara Currie.
The Tigers placed fourth out of five teams with Cumberlands winning the outdoor title to sweep all three conference championships this season en route to the overall MSC Archery Championship. Campbellsville placed fourth in the overall MSC standings with 10.5 points after finishing tied for second in 3D, followed by fourth-place finishes at the indoor and outdoor events.
Starting out the event in the individual Men's Recurve, Nelson placed third overall after falling in the semifinals to Kentucky Christian University's Nicholas Trdina, 6-0. Trdina went on to win the gold in the event. In the Women's Recurve, Hatfield lost a 6-0 decision to Miranda Lauria of University of the Cumberlands in the championship match.
Both
Conner Campbell and
Wade Meredith competed in the Men's Bowhunter finishing eighth and ninth, respectively. Campbell made it to the round out of eight, but could not advance to the medal round after posting a 117, which was his lowest of the three rounds he competed in. Meredith was one of eight individuals to finish tied for ninth place after being eliminated from the discipline in the round of 16 after posting a 106.
Campbellsville had four women compete in the Bowhunter, where
Ariel Emberton, Marianna Melgoza and
Madison Myatt were eliminated in the first round to finish tied for ninth. After placing fourth in the first round with a score of 124, Duncan finished eighth overall with just a 102 in the second round of the Women's Bowhunter.
Bratcher garnered the second bronze medal of the day for the Tigers with a third-place finish in the Men's Basic Bow. Wilson was just behind Bratcher in the event and placed fourth, just missing the podium.
Rounding out individual competition, French picked up a third-place finish in the Women's Basic Bow.
Haley Arnett also took part in the event, but could not move onto the semifinals and placed fifth.
Shifting into team competition, the Tiger duo of Hatfield and Nelson were the lone team to compete in the Mixed Recurve to win the gold. Then in the Women's Bowhunter division, the team of Duncan, Emberton and Myatt suffered a 174-149 loss to University of Pikeville to place third.
In the Mixed Bowhunter team event, Campbell and Duncan were seeded third and lost in the semifinals to Pikeville, 131-119. However, the duo bounced back to beat fourth-seeded Georgetown College, 130-112.
The final gold medal of the day for the Tigers came in the Men's Basic Bow team discipline. Bratcher, French and Wilson were seeded third of three teams, but upset second-seeded Pikeville, 6-2. Against top-seeded Kentucky Christian – who earned a bye into the gold medal match – the Tigers posted their second-straight 6-2 victory to win the gold.
Capping off the championship, Bratcher and French took part in the Mixed Basic Bow tournament and placed third. Pikeville upended Bratcher and French, 6-2, and the pair finished with the bronze medal.
With all first- and second-place finishers earning First and Second Team All-MSC honors, respectively; Hatfield, Nelson, Bratcher, French and Wilson all earned First Team All Mid-South Conference honors. Hatfield was the lone Campbellsville archer to earn Second Team All-MSC honors at the outdoor championship.
