GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Saturday morning, the Tiger cross country team took to the course in the extremely competitive NAIA Great Lakes Challenge in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
While the Tigers struggled overall, they were able to develop some solid performances in route to their 20
thplace finish.
Through the cool, 30-degree morning, Chris Stoeckel was able to use the meet to score a season best time, finishing in 27:13.9, besting his mark from the Greater Louisville Classic by 30 seconds. Stoeckel was able to finish in a pack of Tigers as he was led by
Jacob Hamilton with a 27:05.6 and
Josiah Harp closely followed with a 27:15.1. The trio were able to finish 110th, 125th, and 128th overall in the meet.
This pack was led by top 100 finishes form
Sam Kiser and
Camryn Snapp. Kiser was able to use a 26:34.3, while Snapp ran a 26:50.2 for 71
st and 90
th places.
Rounding out the top seven for the Tigers was
Jiovanni Rivera and
Brandon Cox who were also able to finish under the 28-minute barrier. Placing 142
nd, Rivera was able to run a 27:31.9. Cox followed twenty seconds later placing 161
st.
Also running for CU was
Collin Sheffield (28:06.1),
Matthew Fischer (28:41.7),
Kipkoech Lang'at (28:50.7),
Briley Shrewsberry (28:51.0), and making his season debut,
Jarrett Crawford (29:24.4).
Campbellsville's average time was able to narrowly break the 27-minute barrier as they averaged a 26:59.8, for 524 team points.
The ninth ranked, Taylor Trojans took the team title, scoring 71 points, with a 25:23 average. The individual crown went to Shawnee State's Seth Farmer as he used a 24:48.1 in a kick to the finish.
Facing off against two other schools in the Mid-South Conference, Campbellsville was the middle of the back as Shawnee State finished third overall and the University of the Cumberlands finished 23
rd.
This concludes the regular season for the Tigers as Campbellsville's next meet will be at the Mid-South Conference Championship on November 9
th at Phil Moore Park in Bowling Green, Ky.
