LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On Saturday, the Tigers travelled to Louisville to compete in one of the country's largest cross-country meets of the weekend, the Greater Louisville Classic.
In a field that consisted of 57 teams and and 515 runners, Campbellsville shined, recording numerous person bests and a 10
th place team finish, with an average time of 26:16. This average time sets this Tiger team among the best in CU history, besting the top team time by 10 seconds, which was set by last year's team.
Once again,
Sam Kiser led way for Campbellsville besting his previous top run by 1:05. Kiser, notching a 39
th place performance, was able to record an overall time of 25:30.5, making him the fourth fastest runner in Tiger history.
Camryn Snapp was also able to place his name on the Tiger's all-time top ten list, using a 26:15.9 to sit 9
th on Campbellsville's record board. Snapp's time was an eight second improvement on his career best, after he narrowly missed a spot on the top ten list following last year's NAIA Championship.
Finishing the race with Snapp was
Jacob Hamilton who closed the 8,000-meter run in 26:16.7. Hamilton and Snapp were able to capture top 100 finishes, placing 95
th and 96
th overall.
A trio of Tigers were also able to pack up to round out the top five scorers for CU. The pack of three consisted of
Jiovanni Rivera,
Kipkoech Lang'at, and
Josiah Harp. Rivera led the group with and finishing in 26:34.2, to improve upon a PR of 27:27. Rivera was able to finish 128
th overall.
Lang'at, making his season debut for Campbellsville, also capitalized with personal record, besting his mark from last season by 26 seconds. Lang'at closed with a mark of 26:44.8 to round out the Tiger's top five in 147
th place.
Harp followed Lang'at by four seconds, finishing 155
th, with another personal best for CU.
To close out the scoring for the Tigers, freshman,
Brandon Cox picked up yet another personal best, finishing the top 200, with a mark of 27:15.3.
The remaining Tigers competing in the meet included Chris Stoeckel,
Collin Sheffield, and Matthew Fisher. Stoeckel was able to record a 27:43.1 for 250
th, while Sheffield followed with a 28:11.8 and 317
th in his 8K debut. Fischer was able to record a time of 28:23.0 with a 334
th place finish.
After the most recent top 25 poll was released on Wednesday, the Tigers sat in the receiving votes category. However, with a 10
th place finish in today's meet, the Tigers were able to overcome Aquinas College, who sits 21
st in the NAIA poll, as well as numerous NCAA Division I and Division II teams.
Coach Lakes, who was extremely pleased with the team's performance today will be taking CU to Wilmington, Ohio on Friday, October 11
th, for the Jenna Strong Invitational.
