NATIONAL CHAMP! Rachel Woosley claims first archery title for Campbellsville

LAS VEGAS — In just the fourth year of having a program, Campbellsville University archery already has a national champion. Freshman Rachel Woosley won the Basic Bow Division Gold Medal this weekend to claim the title.

Woosley, a freshman from Grayson County, defeated Debby Berardi of Kentucky Christian and Kryslynne Poole of Copiah-Lincoln Community College to win the first archery title.

In the qualification rounds, Woosley finished second behind Briley Hearrin of Kentucky Christian by 98 points but earned a hard-fought win in the finals over Berardi by 81 points, 1,032-951.

Woosley had to come from behind in the finals. She was down 25-21 after round one but rallied with a 22-16 win in the second. In the third, Woosley fell behind 22-19 before winning the final two, 26-25 and 23-21.

In addition to Woosley, Nina Ni also represented Campbellsville in the finals. Ni qualified for seventh place with a score of 954 in the prelims. Unfortunately, she was matched up with Woosley in the first round of the final bracket and her teammate for the better of her, 7-1.

The title completes the indoor schedule for CU archery. Now the Tigers will have a few months to prepare for the Outdoor Target Regional Championships at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. on April 17.
