Marvel, Diemer and Woenker continue to impress

  • Diemer, a senior from Maryville, Tenn., has had a stellar final campaign so far with a 17-2 duals record and 9-2 open record.
  • At 165 it's been Chandler Woenker doing a lot of the heavy lifting with a 15-3 record. He pulled an upset win over No. 14 Joe Koontz of Lindsey Wilson with a 4-2 sudden victory.

Mutuwa and Linton hold down top two weight classes
  • Linton's record speaks for itself at 197 pounds as he boasts a 16-0 slate including 12 of those being pins, two forfeits, and two decisions.
  • The 197-pound weight class for the Tigers hasn't seen a caliber wrestler like Linton is awhile and he's brought excitement later in the dual season.
  • Mutuwa has been impressive as well in duals with a 16-1 record. He's coming off an injury win over No. 1 Brandon Reed of Lindsey Wilson where he led 3-2 after a reversal and takedown in the first period.
  • The Tigers have needed some heavy hitters at the top end of its weight classes and these two seniors have provided it for CU.

Look back at the win over No. 4 Lindsey Wilson
  • The Tigers trailed for the entirety of the dual until No. 7 Zach Linton (197 lbs.) earned a first period pin in just 1:08 over Carlos Figueroa for the Blue Raiders. CU was down 18-13 heading into the match as Linton's pin gave Campbellsville their first lead of the match at 19-18 heading into the 285 lbs. match.
  • It was a high-profile heavyweight match between CU's No. 9 Ashton Mutuwa and No. 1 Brandon Reed for the Blue Raiders. Reed earned an early advantage after a quick takedown but Mutuwa was able to earn an escape point then start a takedown of his own on Reed. After the takedown, Reed signaled an injury and was unable continue after the full length of injury time was given, giving Mutuwa the injury default win, six points to the Tigers and a 25-18 final score.
  • The momentum of the dual was flipped in favor of Campbellsville at the 165 lbs. match when No. 16 Chandler Woenker was able to score a sudden victory over No. 14 Joe Koontz. Woenker started down 2-0 and was able to secure a takedown in the second period then get Koontz's riding time under a minute to force the overtime where he secured a takedown within a minute of the extra period.
  • Tiger sophomore and No. 18 ranked at 174 lbs., Mahlic Sallah was able to edge out a 7-6 decision over No. 6 Trajan Hurd in a match that had both benches and the audience on their feet. Sallah earned a 5-0 advantage after a pair of misconduct points, a takedown, and an escape to start the second period. Hurd was able to earn a couple of takedowns and pull the match to a single point at 7-6 but Sallah was able to hang on to pull CU within two points at 15-13 LWC.
  • After the Blue Raiders got out to an 11-0 lead after a forfeit at 125 lbs. and a tech fall at 133 lbs., No 6 Dayton Marvel (141 lbs.) and No. 12 Michael Diemer (149 lbs.) were able to get the first and second wins for Campbellsville in the dual to make it an 11-7 dual.
  • Marvel's win was also a tight one-point decision as he picked up the 5-4 win over Trent Johnson and Diemer scored the only major decision for the Tigers with an 8-0 win against Zane Brown.
