Lady Tigers breakout in route to first win of the 2020 campaign

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Friday evening, the Lady Tigers picked up their first team win of the year at the DePauw Tiger Small College Indoor Invitational.

Despite not competing in numerous events in the meet, the CU was able to put together a handful of standout performances to record 96 points on the day to earn the overall team victory.

Haley Payton stood out once again as the sophomore started the day off strong for Campbellsville by earning an NAIA A-standard qualifying mark in the long jump. Payton's mark 5.74 meters was enough for the sophomore to win the event, as well as adding the event NAIA Championship list. Payton already has a B-standard mark in the triple jump.

Payton later went on to add two more points to her daily total for the team as she gathered a seventh-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.35 meters on the first attempt.

Riquel Williams also picked up an event win for the Lady Tigers as she nearly missed a personal best throw, marking an 11.92-meter mark. Katelyn Young closely followed Williams with a throw of 10.75 meters for third place.

Williams and Young later went on to place as part of the quartet of scoring Lady Tigers in the weight throw. Jasmin Green led the way in the event as she once again bettered her school record mark with a throw of 16.92 meters, enough for second place. Zoe Box followed Green notching a throw of 14.41 meters on her first attempt of the day. Williams and Young followed in fifth and eighth places, tossing season best throws of 14.17 meters and 13.09 meters.

Daisha Edelen closed the scoring totals in the field for CU with a 9.39-meter jump in the triple jump to place sixth.

On the track, Ta'Neshya Allen put together stellar performances with a trio of second place finishes. Allen began her day with the 60-meter hurdles as she used a time of 9.76 to make the finals before closing in 10.03 for the runner-up finishes. Allen then immediately followed that performance with the 60-meter dash, as her mark of 8.14 seconds led her to her finish.

Teychiana Dornan and Taylor Cox joined Allen in the 60-meter dash, as the pair placed third and eighth. Dornan just missed Allen's mark, as she closed in 8.15 seconds. Cox then followed with a time of 8.73 seconds.

Allen recorded her final second place finish in the 200-meter dash as she recorded a 27.98 second run. Again, Cox joined in the scoring of the event, with a season best 28.55 second run for eighth place.

Krystan Armstrong picked up the final event win of the day for CU as she took a 1:04.30 to earn 10 points for the Lady Tigers in the 400-meter dash.

Closing out the scoring on the track for the Lady Tigers was Miranda Rzendzian as she recorded fourth place in the 5,000-meter run, just etching her name under the 20-minute barrier with a 19:58.23.

The Lady Tigers finished the evening with 96 points behind 24 from Allen, while DePauw closely followed in second place with 93.5.

Campbellsville will be back in action next Saturday, Feb. 15th, for the UIndy Team Invitational.
