LOUISVILLE, KY – The Tigers were able to mix up the competition Saturday morning at the Greater Louisville Classic finishing in 24
th place out of 61 teams in the Men's Blue Division race.
The race alone saw a huge number of harriers which meant for careful footing along tight spots in the race. 534 total runners completed the race Saturday morning.
The race consisted of multiple NCAA DII, DIII, and NAIA top 25 programs. Freshman
Lukas Smithson ran his way into a top ten program time placing him as seventh on the list. Smithson was able to come in as the Tigers top runner with a time of 25:53.3 placing outside the top 50 at 52
nd place.
The Tigers would fall off by 30 seconds until their second and third man crossed the line.
Shawn Little was able to place 115
th in the race with his time of 26:25.4. Fifth year senior
Sam Kiser finished close behind Little with his 26:27.3 placing 121
st.
Collin Sheffield was able to dip under his PR by a second this morning. Sheffield came in with a clutch fourth man finish for the Tigers. He ran a new best time of 26:50.2 while placing 164
th.
Freshman Sam Bennett was the fifth man for the Tigers. Bennett was able to finish 8-kilometer course in a new best time of 27:15.7. Bennett placed 212
th in the race.
Seniors
Jacob Hamilton and
Jarrett Crawford rounded out the Tigers top seven today. Hamilton ran a time of 27:30.6 while placing 249
th. Crawford came in close behind Hamilton at 27:35.5 placing 262
nd.
Four NAIA schools who were ranked in the top 25 finished in front of Campbellsville. Aquinas (no. 18), Grace (no. 19), Goshen (no. 22), and Marian University (RV).
The Tigers saw fellow Mid-South Conference school Shawnee State who has won the previous five championships place sixth overall in the race this afternoon. Campbellsville was able to finish in front of Cumberland University who had 703 total points compared to the Tigers 626.
Campbellsville will now have two weeks off before returning the competition when they travel north to one of the NAIA's premier meets at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge.
