SEWANEE, TN – Jamila Garba and
Haley Payton lead the way with two NAIA B Standard performances Friday night in the season opener at Sewanee.
Garba was able to get her first win of the season in the 55m dash. She ran a B standard time of 7.21 which came in the prelims. In the finals she won the event with a performance of 7.24. Garba picked up her second win of the day in the 200m dash with her time of 26.41, over a second in front of the next athlete.
Payton racked up two more wins on her career in her season opener. In the triple jump she marked on NAIA A Standard of 11.56m and earned the victory. In the long jump, Payton hit a distance of 5.38m.
Alexia Boyd had her season debut in the jumps. In the triple jump she jumped for a fourth place finish of 9.96m while in the long jump she placed runner-up with a mark of 5.37m.
Zoe Box and
Ricquel Williams got the early wins of the season in the shot put and weight throw. Box won the weight throw competition with a toss of 14.43m. Williams earned top prize in the shot put with a mark of 11.42m. Williams was also close behind Box in the weight throw competition with her runner-up performance throw of 13.88m.
Macie Russell made her season debut in the shot put and weight throw. She earned the bronze position in the shot put with a throw of 9.39m while in the weight throw she hit a mark of 9.73m. Senior
Brooke Coffman was also able to garner a third place finish in the weight throw. Coffman was able to hit a mark of 12.64m.
Campbellsville will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Louisville, KY for a meet at the Louisville Sports Complex.
