WILLIAMSBURG, KY – Lady Tigers improvement showed in day two as the team comes away with a fourth place finish at the Mid-South Conference Championships.
Savannah Gregory and
Haley Payton were was able to shine brightly bringing 24 points on their days. They started the day in the 4x100m relay with
Alexia Boyd,
Jamila Garba, joining Gregory and Payton when the team placed runner-up in the event with a time of 48.96.
Gregory went on to have a second runner-up finish in the 400m dash when it came down a photo finish with her time of 58.02 while Life's Aliyah Sangster was also at 58.02.
Taylor Cox joined Gregory in collecting the key team points from the 400 with her fourth place finish of 1:00.23. The final eight point for Gregory came from the 4x400m relay when the team had one final runner-up finish. Cox, Gregory, Payton, and Boyd finished in 4:04.46.
Payton was able to bring in a runner-up and NAIA qualifying jump in the triple jump. Her final jump of the day was a lifetime best mark of 11.67m which currently sits at the top of the NCCAA board and 13
th at the NAIA level.
In the sprints, Garba came away with a fifth place finish in the 100m dash finals with her time of 12.36. Garba earned the bronze medal in the 200m dash finals missing out in the silver by .01 seconds with a time of 25.09. Boyd joined Garba in collecting points in the 200 when she placed sixth at 25.71.
In the field events
Courtney Gray hit her mark of 1.49m in the high jump which was good enough for fifth place overall.
Katelyn Young led the way in the throws when she earned the silver medal in the discus. Her mark of 37.02 was bested by Life's Levonis Davis on her final throw which went for 37.49m.
Ricquel Williams brought in the final field event points for the team with her performance in the shot put hitting a fifth place mark of 12.07m.
In the distance events
Gabrielle Velez came .35 seconds away from the bronze medal in the 1500. Her efforts were not in vein when she set a new school record in the event with a time of 4:52.81.
Hailie LaMar joined Velez in scoring when she crossed the line in seventh place with a time of 5:01.25.
Marlina Sipes participated in the 5000m racewalk and came away with a fifth place performance time of 36:06.82.
Maggie Parrish rounded out scoring in the distance events for the team when she placed eighth in the 800m run with a time of 2:27.47.
The Lady Tigers were able to finish fourth in the meet with a team score of 112. Life University won the meet with their team score of 217. Campbellsville will be back in action at the NCCAA Championships May 12-14.
