GREENVILLE, ILL. – Lady Tigers are sitting four points out of second after day two at the NCCAA National Championships.
There must be something about big moments that
Haley Payton must like. Payton won her second national title this afternoon in the triple jump. She jumped a new PR as well as hitting an NAIA A Standard mark of 11.96m. That currently stands in the top 10 in the country.
Senior
Ta'Neshya Allen was able to help Payton in key scoring. Allen placed runner-up in the javelin throw this evening with her mark on her second attempt at 38.25m. Allen was also able to make her way into the finals of the 100m hurdles while hitting the fifth fastest time in prelims at 15.89.
Katelyn Young was the final Lady Tiger to score points in the field events. She placed fifth overall in the event with a throw of 38.11m.
In the sprints, Campbellsville saw three individuals make finals.
Taylor Cox qualified in the 400m finals with her preliminary time of 1:01.28.
In the 100m dash,
Jamila Garba and
Alexia Boyd both qualified. Boyd finished fourth with a time of 12.54 while Garba finished sixth with a time of 12.79. Boyd and Garba both qualified in the 200m dash as well. Boyd placed fourth with a time of 25.40 and Garba was sixth with a time of 25.58.
In a race that saw a lot of contact early on, Campbellsville was able to come away with an All-American finish in the 4x800m relay.
Gabrielle Velez,
Hailie LaMar,
Emma Steff, and
Maggie Parrish were able to finish just three seconds behind their school record at 9:53.08.
The final points of the day came from
Ashlyn Elmore in the 10,000m run. Elmore placed fifth in the event with a new school record time of 41:19.72. The previous record was held by Sarah Johnston when she ran a 42:09.41 back in 2015.
Campbellsville will now look to move up the standings heading into day three tomorrow with events starting at 11 AM.
