RICHMOND, Ky. – At the NAIA Women's Southeast ITA Regional Championships September 16th thru the 19th, the Lady Tigers had a duo reach the semifinals with a quarterfinal and two Round of 16 finishes for singles competition.
Oriana Espinoza and
Angela Mendoza carried the momentum for Campbellsville into Saturday morning. The 7th ranked duo would secure an opening round victory, 8-1 over Ortega/Pearce from Freed-Hardeman. Up next would be an 8-3 win over Fros/Nagao from University of the Cumberlands. The semifinal matchup was a close match ending in the favor of the Blue Raiders (Mora/Parra).
In the Round of 32,
Madison Hill and Sarah Mitchell would defeat Noelia Martinez Garcia and Dakota Schroeder, 8-1. The pair would have to match up with the future champions, Valerie Quiceno and Stephanie Petit, dropping that match 8-1.
Campbellsville would fill the singles side of the bracket with 6 individuals. Oriana Espinoza highlighted the Lady Tigers advancing her way into the quarterfinals.
#10 Espinoza started her tournament with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Catherine Rae (University of the Cumberlands). She would then pick up an upset bid over 7
th ranked Lucia Mora (Lindsey Wilson), 6-0, 6-3. Her next matchup was against the future champion, Stephanie Petit. Petit took the match 6-0, 6-2.
Blaeke Mitchell and
Angela Mendoza were both able to advance past their first-round victories into the Round of 16 before their elimination.
Madison Hill,
Emily Hibbs, and
Addison Sutton would all have an opening round exit.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action on October 8
th in Bowling Green, Kentucky at the Mid-South Conference Fall Invitational.
