BEREA, KY. – The Tigers started their season off with a win Friday night at the 5
th annual Berea College/Centre College Jamboree.
Campbellsville was able to hold tight packs during their first race of the season. The Tigers 1-5 man spread sat at only 46 seconds while their 1-7 man spread came in at 50 seconds. Five different Tigers set a new PR competing Friday evening.
The Tigers dominated the competition with a winning team score of 42 points. The second place team finished 24 points behind Campbellsville which was Berea College at 66 points.
Fifth year senior
Sam Kiser showed his experience for the team early on in the race. Kiser crossed the line as Campbellsville's top harrier placing third in a PR time of 15:52.
He had two teammates immediately follow in fourth and fifth. Rookie
Dakota Brady was second man on the team finishing fourth in a new PR of 15:55.2 and sophomore
Shawn Little was third man with a 15:55.3.
The Tigers fourth and fifth man were also able to finish within one second of each other. Freshman Sam Bennett came in 14
th place overall and cross the line in 16:37.
Collin Sheffield saw his all-conference success carry over to this season with an early fifth man finish time of 16:38.4.
"I'm happy with the performance and efforts overall for the men's team today," said Coach
Corbin Harris. "It was nice to get back into racing and our team packed well. The freshmen came to race today and have proven what they had all pre-season, that they are here to compete."
This is Campbellsville's first season opening win since the 2014 season when the team won the Asbury Invitational.
