LOUISVILLE, KY –
Alexia Schofield made her debut for the Tigers on Saturday, and she proved to be one to watch for in the season opener at the Commonwealth College Opener.
Schofield earned two school records and two NAIA A standards in her debut Saturday afternoon. In the 200m dash, she broke teammate
Jamila Garba's school record in 24.98, placing 7th overall. The previous record was 25.04. In the triple jump, Alexia removed Keisha Chiles from the record list, which stood since the 2012-13 season of 11.76m. Schofield made her mark of 11.94m placing 3rd.
After a successful season in spring 2022, Garba put her spikes on for the first time this season this afternoon. She placed 11th in the 200m dash with a time of 25.41. Garba also led the 4x400m relay team to a school record performance time of 4:03.36. The previous school record was set back in 2012-13 by Starsha Fant, Myra Rose, Christiana Harris, and Lauren Little of 4:08.47. Joining Garba on the team were Schofield,
Victoria Young, and
Lanecia Moore. They are less than four seconds off an NAIA standard time.
Young and Moore put themselves in positions for top eight finishes in the 400m dash. Young placed 5th with her time of 1:00.35, while Moore placed 7th overall in the event with a time of 1:01.88.
Alexia Boyd made her season debut for Campbellsville in the 60m dash and the long jump. In the 60m dash, she placed 14th at 7.83, while in the long jump, she was 12th overall with a mark of 5.29m.
Kourtlyn Cannon was close behind Boyd in the 60m dash in her career debut for Campbellsville placing 17th in 7.88.
In the 60m hurdles,
Makiyah Allen earned her way to a 12th place finish in the prelims with her time of 9.72.
After setting her ninth school record of the 2022 calendar year,
Emma Steff stepped on the track for the first time since the NCCAA Outdoor National Championship after winning the 5,000m and 10,000m at those championships. Steff and
Christy Shank both doubled up on the day in the mile and the 3,000m run.
Shank led the way in both events. In the mile, Shank placed 4th with a time of 5:16.63 and broke
Hailey Stallings school record of 5:23.73 set back in the 2019-2020 season, while Steff was 5th at 5:23.19 also dipping under that previous school record time. At the 3K distance, Shank was 4th at 10:46.82, and Steff was 8th in the event at 10:59.90. Shank is two seconds off Steff's school record of 10:44.51.
Marlena Sipes was the lone Tiger to earn an individual win on the day. Sipes ran her way to victory in the 800m run with a time of 2:41.72.
Senior
Ricquel Williams led the way in both the shot put and weight throw for Campbellsville on Saturday. Williams placed 7th in the weight throw with her mark of 15.73m which is .07m off from an NAIA B standard.
Brooke Coffman earned a top 15 finish in the weight throw with her throw of 12.08m. Williams took 7th once again in the shot put with a throw of 11.66m.
Campbellsville will return to the track next Saturday, December 10th, when they host the Tiger Paw Holiday Invitational. That meet will take place in Louisville, KY at the Norton Health Care Sport and Learning Center.
