Payton wins third NCCAA triple jump national title of her career, Lady Tigers place third at NCCAA Indoor Championships

CEDARVILLE, OHIO – Haley Payton returned to form this season and to reclaim her third NCCAA title crown in the triple jump.
 
Payton who earned her first NCCAA title on this same track three years ago was able to replicate that same motion Saturday afternoon. Payton won the triple jump with a mark of 11.28m. 
 
Payton was not the only national champion in the jumps. Alexia Boyd won the long jump over the field with her jump of 5.37m. Payton narrowly missed an All-American position in the event placing fourth overall landing at 5.20m.
 
The 4x800m relay was close to being national champions themselves. In a tight finish to the line the team placed runner-up by two seconds. Nina Daman, Hailie LaMar, T'Lea Scott, and Emma Steff finished the event in 10:05.44 which breaks the former school record by 23 seconds.
 
Ricquel Williams earned two-times the All-Americans Saturday in her events. Williams placed third in the shot put with her throw of 12.06m. In the weight throw she came back with another third place overall with a mark of 14.73m. Zoe Box helped Williams with points in the weight throw placing sixth overall with a mark of 14.23m. 
 
In the sprints, Jamila Garba was the lone All-American on the day. Garba placed third in the 200m dash, crossing the line in 25.63. Boyd finished one second behind Garba when she crossed the line in 26.77. 
 
The duo of Boyd and Garba collected more key points in the 60m dash finals along with LaAuhnni Lewis. Boyd led the way placing fifth at 7.94, Garba was seventh crossing the line in 7.96, while Lewis finished the event in eighth place with a time of 8.01.
 
Emma Steff came close to earning her third All-American of the meet. Steff placed sixth in the 3,000m run with her time of 11:08.49.
 
The 4x400m relay finished off the day. Boyd, Alisha Claycomb, Taniel James, and Scott finished fourth overall in the event and hit a time of 4:22.43.
 
Lady Tigers will be back in action next weekend when the team travels to Louisville, KY to take on the Mid-South Conference Championships.
