LEXINGTON, KY – The Bluegrass state was the place for final touchups with turned into season best, PR's, school records, and national marks at the Kentucky Invitational over the weekend.
Jamila Garba and
Emma Steff continue to impress in the standings and the record books. Garba started out her weekend by setting the 100m school record. Back in 2013, Keisha Chiles was able grab that record at the Mid-South Conference Championships in a winning time of 12.26.
Garba set a new standard at 12.25. Immediately following the 100m, Garba shattered her own school record in the 200m with an NAIA A Standard time of 24.56. Garba now sits at ninth in the nation for the NAIA in the event.
Alexia Boyd placed 17
th in the 100m at 12.47 while
LaAuhnni Lewis was 18
th at 12.61.
Garba also help lead the 4x100m to a now automatic birth to the NAIA Championships with a time of 47.89 with
LaAuhnni Lewis,
Haley Payton, and
Alexia Boyd on the team.
Emma Steff broke yet another school record, this time in the 1500m. Gabe Velez was the previous record holder which she set in the Mid-South Conference Championships in the 2021 season. Steff now has the record time of 4:51.62.
Hailie LaMar was also able to dip under the five minute mark with a time of 4:55.67 placing 18
th.
Hailey Shank was able to earn top point placement in the 3,000m steeplechase. Shank placed sixth overall with a time of 12:23.49.
In the field events, Payton is closing in on qualifying herself for the NAIA Championships in the jumps. She has a bit more work to do while hitting a mark of 11.46m in the triple jump placing seventh overall. In the long jump, Payton placed eighth at 5.54m while Boyd was 11
th in the event behind her with a mark of 5.09m.
Ricquel Williams continues to make noise in all her throwing events. In the shot put, Williams was eighth overall at 12.04m while
Macie Russell was 14
th in the vent with a distance of 9.32m and
Asia Cooper was behind Russell in 15
th at 8.97m.
In the discus,
Brooke Coffman placed 12
th overall at 30.20m while Williams was 13
th hitting 30.06m. In the hammer, Williams placed 12
th while throwing a distance of 41.04m and Coffman was 13
th less than a meter behind at 40.98m.
Zoe Box earned top 15 in the event at 39.69m.
Russell rounded out top scoring for the Lady Tigers in the javelin with an eighth place throw of 28.95m.
Campbellsville will now turn its full attention towards the Mid-South Conference Championships in Williamsburg, KY on May 1-2.
