LOUISVILLE, KY - Campbellsville battled through the high winds, snow, and hail over the weekend at the Jim Vargo Invitational.
Emma Steff once again led the charge this week with yet another school record. Steff broke her own school record in the 5,000m run by 29 seconds. She placed 2
nd in the invitational 5K Friday night with a time of 18:01.96, which is only 11 seconds off NAIA Standard. Steff is now the top ranked runner in the 5,000m and 10,000m in the NCCAA.
Jamila Garba stepped into the blocks in the 400m Saturday and was able to join Steff in the runner-up podium. Garba has been all over the sprints this season and proving herself to be a hybrid in the 400m with a finish time of 1:00.51. Garba helped the 4x100m relay battle through a windy day Saturday placing 2
nd once again with a time of 49.49 with
Haley Payton,
LaAuhnni Lewis, and
Alexia Boyd on the relay.
Hailie LaMar and
T'Lea Scott were in the mix on both days. Scott placed 10
th in the 800m invitational Friday evening with her time of 2:28.71 while LaMar stepped on the track in the open 800m Saturday with a 7
th place finish of 2:26.91. LaMar was in the 1500m invitational Friday evening running a 15
th place time of 5:00.69 and Scott was in the open 1500m Saturday placing 11
th at 5:05.81.
Nina Daman ran a lifetime best in the open 5,000m run Saturday at 19:51.08 placing 4
th overall.
Boyd and Payton highlighted the long jump. The conditions were less than ideal for the duo having to get their steps down due to the high winds and the snow coming across the runway. Boyd placed 3
rd in the event at 5.01m while Payton was right behind in 4
th with a mark of 4.94m.
Zoe Box,
Ricquel Williams, and
Brooke Coffman made noise in the hammer throw on Friday. Box led the trio with an 8
th place mark of 39.60m, Williams was 10
th at 37.75m, and Coffman rounded out the group in 11
th at 37.53m.
Madison Welch was down at the University of the Cumberlands in the 5,000m racewalk. Welch placed 12
th in the event at 39:58.85.
Campbellsville will have Easter weekend off before finishing off the regular season at the University of Kentucky Invitational April 22-23. The Mid-South Conference Championships will be following that meet on May 1-2.
