Lady Tiger Tennis set to play in NCCAA Championship Friday

MOBILE, Ala. – The Lady Tigers opened up NCCAA Championship Tournament play by taking on the Eagles of Asbury University and the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City University Tuesday and Wednesday. Their wins advance the Lady Tigers to the championship.
 
Campbellsville 4, Asbury 0
 
The Lady Tigers opened round robin play at the NCCAA tournament by hitting the court against the Asbury Eagles. Campbellsville began day one with doubles where they were able to sweep the Eagles in all three matches. The #1 team of Oriana Espinoza and Angela Mendoza defeated Asbury's Giovana Kelm and Luciana Iriarte 6-1 in their matchup. The duo of Blaeke Mitchell and Emily Hibbs were able to pick up a 3-2 win over Grace Gorby and Isabella Gutierrez before not finishing their match. The final doubles match ended with the #3 team of Ariadna Perez and Madison Hill besting Kourtney Kawata and Mary-Grace Narron 6-0.
 
In singles, Espinoza battled Kelm and won the match with set scores of 6-3 and 6-0. Mendoza defeated Gorby with sets of 6-2 and 6-0. The Lady Tigers sent out Perez in the #3 spot where she defeated Iriarte 6-2 and 6-0. Mitchell was unable to finish her second set, but she was able to secure the first by a final of 6-4. Hill took down Asbury's Kawata 6-1 and 6-0. Emma Calfee rounded out singles play for the Lady Tigers by beating the Eagles' Narron with scores of 6-0 and 6-2.
 
Campbellsville 4, Oakland City 0
 
CU would go into the second day of the tournament by taking down the Mighty Oaks of Oakland City. Campbellsville's #1 duo of Espinoza and Mendoza won their matchup against Liz Aristizabal and Kataryna Kulynych 6-0 to keep the Mighty Oaks off the board. Mitchell and Hibbs were not able to finish their match against Norma Padilla Paola and Isabela Todorovic. In the final match of the day, the #3 team of Perez and Hill were able to take down Hannah Wilson and Kaleigh Helm by a final of 6-1.
 
Espinoza was the #1 singles selection for the Lady Tigers, and she would take the first set 6-0 before not being able to finish the second set. Mendoza took on Paola and won with set scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Perez faced off with Kulnych and took both sets 6-0. Mitchell would have a 6-5 set lead before not being able to finish the rest of her match. Hill kept the ball rolling for CU as she defeated Pamela Barbosa in sets of 6-0 and 6-1. Calfee finished singles play by taking the first set 6-2 before her match was not able to finish either.
 
The Lady Tigers will return to the courts on May 13 for the NCCAA Women's Tennis National Championship and will take on the winner of Thursday's matches between Asbury and Oakland City. The championship is set to begin at 11 a.m. ET.
