Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Sheldon Dossett

Harding goes for career-high 23 points in win against Dragons

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — The Tigers hit the ground running in their second and final game in the University of the Cumberlands Classic Saturday. Taking on the Virginia University – Lynchburg Dragons, Campbellsville trailed at 14-13 but, after that point, never looked back, keeping a comfortable lead the remainder of the contest, and emerging with the win, 88-78.

Darius Harding opened things with a three, which would prove to be a common sentiment as he'd nail seven in total. The Tigers relied on Harding's electric distance shooting in the first half, posting a perfect 5-5 from deep and totaling 17 points in all. Campbellsville got 33 points from their starters in the first 20 minutes, when typically, this season they've relied on equal contributions from their bench. On the other side of the court, the Dragons were held to just 33.3% shooting but made 4-10 threes to stay within striking distance to the Tigers. Chandler Clements controlled the boards with six and Campbellsville outrebounded VUL by six, while also getting five more team assists.

After halftime, both teams' field goal percentages shot up. Jay Milburn and Jace Wallace had ten and nine points respectively, both shooting over 50% from the court in half number two. In total, the Tigers shot 54.3% compared to the Dragons' 45%. While Campbellsville's team assists stayed higher than VUL's (12 to seven), the rebound advantage went to the Dragons' favor with their persistent offensive grabs off their own misses. While the Tigers were ahead by as many as 31, the Dragons cut it back down to ten as the horn sounded. Campbellsville returned to their winning ways with an 88-78 victory.

Harding ended with 23 points, three assists, and two steals. Clements had double-digit rebounds with 11, while Wallace had a team-high six assists.

Next up for the Tigers is Toccoa Falls College. That game will be in Powell Athletic Center on November 18th at 7:30 p.m. ET.
