Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Liliana Gonzalez & Ashlyn Sandidge

Harding's career-high 24 points bring the Tigers a New Year's Eve win

JOLIET, Ill. - The Tigers battled the East-West University Phantoms on the second day of the St. Francis University Classic. Holding the lead 69.8% of the game, the Tigers had a second victory in Illinois, defeating the Phantoms 83-64.

The opening minutes of the first half came to a slow start. Chandler Clements landed a three-point jumper, making Campbellsville the first on the scoreboard. The Phantoms quickly retaliated with a layup, but Jay Milburn did not allow them to get a hold of the lead. The Tigers collected a few more buckets, propelling them forward on the lead. East-West tied the score at 15 and stole the lead from Campbellsville. However, with less than four minutes left on the clock, the Tigers regained the lead and finished the first half holding an 11-point advantage. Going into the second half, Campbellsville led the game 46-35.

At the end of the first half, both teams' play had similar statistical values. However, the Tigers' teamplay was notorious compared to the Phantoms, nearly tripling them, collecting 14 assists to their five.

Milburn started the second half with a layup, aided by Darius Harding's third assist of the contest. Halfway through the second half, Campbellsville expanded their lead to a 20-point advantage over East-West. The Phantoms retaliated with a few baskets, but the Tigers prevented them from getting any closer to the lead. Campbellsville's defense was highlighted by Clements' defensive rebounds and Jordan Graham's steals. East-West strongly relied on their chances at the charity stripe to rack up more points on the scoreboard. Cameron Willis came off the bench with his first bucket of the game, earning the Tigers three more points to their advantage. Campbellsville closed the second half with a victory, 83-64.

At the end of the game, the Tigers' teamplay and well-rounded lineup throughout the game more than tripled the Phantoms with 25 assists to their seven and more than doubled them with 35 bench points to their 17. Additionally, Campbellsville doubled East-West with 12 steals to their six, showing their arduous defensive play. Two Tigers recorded new career-highs, Harding with 24 points and Tyrelle Hunt with 11 rebounds.

The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, January 6th, hosting the Clinton College Golden Bears at 4 p.m. ET.
