Campbellsville places second at NCCAA Indoor National Championships

CEDARVILLE, OH – Campbellsville brings a runner-up finish back to campus at the NCCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend. 

Alexia Schofield has put herself on a new level this season. The sophomore won both the long jump and triple jump crowns over the weekend. In the long jump, she was .14m ahead of her competition with a mark of 5.66m and an NAIA A Standard mark. Schofield returned in the triple jump and made a gap of .19m of 11.43m. Alexia Boyd finished in 4th place in both of the long and triple jump events. Boyd hit 5.46m in the long jump while hitting a mark of 11.13m in the triple jump. 

The 200m brought Campbellsville 22 points to the board. Schofield and Jamila Garba both earned All-American honors finishing 2nd and 3rd. Schofield earned the silver medal in 25.56, while Garba was close behind for the bronze in 25.57. Boyd earned another 4th place finish for the meet in the event, running a time of 25.73 and hitting an NAIA B Standard. KaNiya Douglas and LaAuhnni Lewis were the final two athletes in for the Lady Tigers. Douglas placed 7th for two points in a time of 26.80, while Lewis was 8th for one point in 27.02. 

In the 60m finals, Campbellsville stacked up with four athletes reaching the final on day two. Boyd earned All-American honors with her bronze medal finishing time of 7.65 and hit NAIA A Standard while setting a new school record. Garba was close behind Boyd in 4th in 7.77, Schofield came in 6th place at 7.87, and Kourtlyn Cannon rounded out the group in 8th with her time of 7.98. Makiyah Allen qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles to finish 5th and earn four points for the team with a time of 9.27. 

Victoria Young and Douglas ran for six points in the 400m. Young was beaten out at the line for an All-American position in her time of 1:01.81, while 3rd was 1:01.76. Douglas placed 8th, and she finished at 1:02.75. In the 4x200m relay, the team was able to pull off the win in the final lap of the relay. Cannon, Douglas, Lewis, and Jaci Johnson finished with a 1.32-second cushion over Bethel (Ind.) with a time of 1:47.10. 

The final sprint relay for Campbellsville was the 4x400m relay, with Douglas, Garba, Lanecia Moore, and Taniel James earning 4th place in 4:10.46. 

On the distance side of the track, Emma Steff continues to lead the team. Steff earned another All-American honor for her career and set her own school record in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:14.47, placing 3rd in the event. That time hits an NAIA A Standard and a 200m flat track conversion of 18:06.61. Steff gave the team one more point in the 3,000m run with an 8th place finish of 10:46.01, two seconds off her school record. 

Christy Shank punched her ticket to the NAIA National Championships with an NAIA B Standard of 18:27.82 and a 200m flat track conversion of 18:19.40, placing 5th overall. Sister Hailey Shank ran a PR in the 5,000m with her time of 18:31.67, placing 7th. Hailey earned 7th in the one-mile run on day two. She was less than one second off a PR in 5:26.06. 

The distance relays gave Campbellsville eight points in total. The 4x800m relay of Meredith Wilson, Taylor Morgan, Anna Claire Carwile, and Marlena Sipes finished 4th overall in 10:36.28. In the distance medley relay, Morgan, Sipes, Wilson, and James placed 6th in 13:34.59. 

Ricquel Williams scored in both of her throwing events on the weekend. Williams has been consistent all season in the weight thrown and proved it this weekend. Williams hit a mark of 15.79m and earned the silver medal and All-American honors. In the shot put, she placed 7th with a throw of 12.38m. 

Campbellsville will return to the track on Friday, February 17th, when they compete in the Mid-South Conference Indoor Championships in Louisville, KY.
