WILLIAMSBURG, KY – Campbellsville earns multiple school records, and NAIA cuts over the weekend at the Patriot Relays, placing 3rd overall in the meet.
The 4x100m relay led the way for the team this weekend.
Alexia Boyd,
Kourtlyn Cannon,
Jamila Garba, and
Alexia Schofield ran away in the final few meters of the race, winning by .02 seconds with a new school record, NAIA A Standard, and the sixth fastest relay in the country of 46.72.
In the 4x400m relay, Garba, Schofield,
KaNiya Douglas, and
Victoria Young beat the previous school record by six seconds with an NAIA B Standard of 3:56.84. The previous record has stood since 2012, held by Starsha Fant, Natasha Janes, Maggie Mattingly, and Emily Wesley.
Garba is begging to fill in the needed spaces in the 400m. She won the event with a PR and NAIA B Standard of 57.15, only .12 shy of the school record. Douglas earned the final points in the 400m with her 8th-place performance of 1:00.36.
Schofield won her third event of the weekend in the 200m with her time of 24.28, just .03 off her school record set earlier this season. Garba was close behind Schofield in the 200m placing 2nd in 25.01, while Cannon was 8th in 26.07. Cannon finished out her busy weekend with a bronze medal performance in the 100m with a time of 12.53.
LaAuhnni Lewis was 5th behind Cannon in 12.58.
Makiyah Allen gave Campbellsville 14 points in her two events this weekend. Allen placed runner-up in the 400m hurdles in 1:14.42 while earning the bronze in the 100m hurdles in 16.11. Boyd joined Allen on the bronze medal podium in the long jump, with her mark of 5.25m coming on her second jump of the day.
In the throwing events, the Tigers saw five points come from
Brooke Coffman and
Macie Russell. Russell placed 6th in the javelin throw with her mark of 31.27m, while Coffman was 7th in the hammer throw at 38.31m.
Emma Steff and
Christy Shank led the way for the distance crew this weekend, placing runner-up in their events. Steff ran her first 10,000m of the season after winning the Mid-South and NCCAA Championships last season. She ran a time of 39:05.49, a three-second PR and school record. Shank made her outdoor 5,000m debut with a time of 18:41.73.
Nina Daman ran a PR in the 10,000m run over the weekend by 2:47 with a 5th place finish of 40:12.12.
Meredith Wilson and
Hailey Shank were the final scorers on the weekend. Wilson placed 7th in the 1500m run with a time of 5:21.13, while Shank was 4th overall in the 3,000m steeplechase in 12:15.59, one second off her best time.
Overall Campbellsville finished with 117 points in third. The University of the Cumberlands finished in second with 147 points, while Findlay won the meet with 237 team points.
Campbellsville will return to the track on Friday, April 14th, when the team travels to Centre College for the Centre Twilight Invitational. Throwing events begin at 12 p.m. ET while track events begin at 5 p.m. ET on a rolling schedule.
