Schofield continues her reign, breaks two school records at Kentucky

LEXINGTON, KY – Overcast skies, cool temperatures and consistent light rain didn't hold back Campbellsville from performing in their final regular season meet.

Alexia Schofield continues her reign on the season for the Tigers. She was able to set two school records this weekend at the Jim Green Invitational. On Friday, she improved her previous school record in the 200m by .02 seconds, placing 13th with a time of 24.23. She now sits inside the top ten in the nation in the event. The more impressive school record came in the triple jump on Saturday. Schofield broke a ten-year-old school record set by Keisha Chiles back in 2013. Chiles mark of 12.16m was bested by .16m for a new record of 12.32m, which puts Schofield ranked 3rd in the nation in the event.

The 4x100m relay team was able to pull off a solo win on Saturday. The 4x100m relay was run earlier in the day with teams joining the Tigers, such as the University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, and Murray State. A technical issue with the finish line camera caused the race to be defaulted. Campbellsville was the only team to choose to run the relay again later in the afternoon, which resulted in the 47.39 victory for Schofield, Alexia Boyd, Kourtlyn Cannon, and Jamila Garba.

Ricquel Williams and Brooke Coffman gave Campbellsville quality top-ten finishes this weekend. Williams placed 7th in the discus with her throw of 32.92m, while Coffman placed 9th in 31.81m. In the shot put, Williams was 6th in 11.14m. Coffman led the way in the hammer throw with her mark of 39.22m, placing 8th, and Williams placed 10th in 37.00m. Macie Russell placed 5th overall in the javelin throw with her mark of 27.78m.

Allie Thomas placed in scoring position for the Tigers with a 7th-place finish of 11:59.66 in the 3,000m. Hailey Shank brought in the final top-ten finish of the meet in the 3,000m steeplechase. Shank finished 3rd overall in 12:25.14.

Campbellsville will now look ahead to the championship season. They travel to Williamsburg, KY, for the Mid-South Conference Championships on Sunday, May 7th, and Monday, May 8th. They will then move onto Columbia, SC, for the NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships May 10-12. The team will conclude the 2022-23 season at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Marian, IN, May 24-26.
