BOWLING GREEN, KY – Crosswinds and heavy rain caused for more strategic racing this weekend for the Tigers at the Hilltopper Relays and Centre Invitational.
The 4x100m relay punched their ticket to the NAIA National Championship.
Alexia Boyd,
Kourtlyn Cannon,
Jaci Johnson, and
Alexia Schofield were able to run an NAIA A Standard and new school record of 47.34, breaking the previous by .07 seconds. That time is #6 in the country.
Schofield,
Jamila Garba, and
LaAuhnni Lewis finished 1-2-3 in the 100m on Saturday. Schofield led the way in 1st at 12.16, Garba was 2nd in 12.25, and Lewis was 3rd in 12.63. Cannon finished 5th overall in 12.76. Garba came back with a victory in the 200m in 25.34. Cannon was less than one second behind Garba in 4th at 26.26, Johnson was a close 5th at 26.31, Lewis was 8th at 26.55, and
KaNiya Douglas rounded out the 200m group in 9th at 26.76.
Douglas had a diagonal wind in the 400m on Saturday to finish 4th overall in 1:00.72.
Victoria Young finished closely behind by .28 seconds in 1:01.00 to finish in 8th.
Lanecia Moore came in 9th overall at 1:02.40.
Emma Steff and
Hailey Shank battled the wind and rain Friday evening in the 5,000m run. Steff finished in 5th at 19:15.62, while Shank was 9th at 19:46.45.
Makiyah Allen doubled up in the 100m and 400m hurdles over the weekend. She brought home a 3rd place finish in the 100m hurdles at 16.25 while placing 9th in the 400m hurdles in 1:17.74.
The wind caused for different starting marks on the runway in the jumps. Boyd came away with the highest finish on the weekend, placing 2nd in the triple jump in 11.26m. Boyd finished behind Schofield in the long jump placing 5th in 5.28m while Schofield was 4th in 5.38m.
On Saturday,
Ricquel Williams and
Macie Russell were up the road in Danville, KY, for the Centre College Invitational. Williams placed 9th in the hammer throw with her mark of 37.39. Russell placed 10th in the javelin throw at 27.40m.
Campbellsville will return to the track on April 7th and 8th when the team heads to the University of the Cumberlands for the Patriot Relays.
