Lady Tigers finish third at the NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday

COLUMBIA, SC – Lady Tigers finished out NCCAA Outdoor National Championships in 3rd place with 123 team points. 

Alexia Schofield led the charge for Campbellsville this weekend, earning multiple national titles and All-American honors. In her primary event of the triple jump, she was able to win with a mark of 11.70m. Schofield was joined by Alexia Boyd in scoring in the event, placing 4th with a mark of 10.84m. In the long jump, Schofield had trouble getting her steps through down the runway but was still able to pull off a 5th-place finish with a jump of 5.28m. 

On the track side, Schofield led the way in multiple events for Campbellsville. The 4x100m relay team of Schofield, Boyd, Jamila Garba, and Kourtlyn Cannon won the relay with a new school record time of 46.06, dropping the previous record set earlier this week by .55 seconds. 

The Tigers gained major points in the 100m and 200m finals. In the 100m, Campbellsville had five athletes qualify for the finals. Boyd led the way in the 100m with her runner-up finish of 11.88 and a new school record. Garba was 4th overall in 12.21, Cannon was 5th in 12.23, LaAuhnni Lewis placed 6th in 12.48, and Jaci Johnson placed 7th in 12.57. Schofield earned another All-American honor in the 200m. She broke her own school record in the event, lowering the time to 24.06, placing 2nd. Cannon was 4th overall in 25.30, and Johnson placed 6th in 26.22. 

Victoria Young, KaNiya Douglas, and Johnson gave Campbellsville 15 points in the 400m. Young ran a new PR placing 2nd in 57.93, Douglas also ran a PR placing 3rd in 58.26, and Johnson came in 8th overall with her time of 1:00.20. Makiyah Allen rounded out the sprints for Campbellsville in the 100m hurdle finals. Allen placed 5th overall in 15.41.

On the distance side of the track, Emma Steff completed her final track events of the season. She has raced 23,800m over the last five days, or 59.50 laps around the track. She earned the bronze medal in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:31.42. Nina Daman joined Steff in scoring, placing 7th in 19:36.20. Daman earned her second NCCAA All-American honor in the 10,000m run for the second year in a row. Daman was the runner-up in the event in 41:19.05, less than nine seconds behind first place. Steff placed 7th in her final solo event in the 1500m run in 7th at 5:04.21. 

The 4x800m relay set a new school record by over ten seconds Thursday evening. Christy Shank, Hailey Shank, Steff, and Young were runner-ups in the event with a time of 9:38.24. H. Shank narrowly missed an All-American in the 3,000m steeplechase, placing 4th in 12:04.49. 

Macie Russell and Ariana Simmons gave Campbellsville their final points of the meet. Russell placed 7th in the javelin with a mark of 32.60m, and Simmons competed in the multi-event of the heptathlon. The heptathlon consists of seven track and field events that athletes earn points in at the end, with Simmons finishing with 2,879 points and placing 6th overall.

Campbellsville will now turn full focus to the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in two weeks. The National Championship this year moves to Marian, Indiana, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan. The meet will run through May 24.26.
